Review of open actions
2023-01-10-f: NTW to produce draft documentation of the XML vocabulary, issue #137
Continued.
2024-03-05-c: SP to prepare pull request to resolve issue #139 (new grammars, new README)
Continued.
2024-10-01-f: SP to make a PR for both versions of the RFC grammar
Continued.
2024-10-01-e: SP to review ixml tests and correct the grammar
Steven: There are some tests that are for an old version of iXML.
… The strings are treated differently; I don't want to change those tests. They're of historical interest.
John: Or add a comment that says it's the old grammar.
Steven: Okay, I'll do that.
<Steven> Steven: OK I'll do that
Continued.
2024-04-30-b: BTW to open an issue on whether to adopt a scheme to distinguish 'major' from 'minor' versions in version numbers.
Completed.
2024-11-12—01: Norm to ask Gunther about subtractions
(Completed, in as much as Gunther followed up before I asked :-) )
Status reports
Norm: I have nothing to add.
John: Nope.
Steven: I'm developing a iXML grammar to parse Finnegan's Wake.
… It's a very interesting experience. I'm about half way through Chapter 1, trying to smoke out the problems.
ACTION: Steven to review the Balisage paper about pragmas
The subtraction operator
John: I've been trying to do work on my implementation to get it going.
… It's not the standard sort of "these strings unless it's these (constant) strings" that are problematic.
… But "a except ~[]" or other things Michael would have produced!
… It becomes very difficult to get sensible results out.
… It's going to be one of these cases where the edge cases are going to kill it.
Steven: I've been digging out some papers and I see that at least one of them is written by someone at the CWI. Will try to have a conversation.
John: Gunther had some thoughts about the fact that this is sneaking in a lexer layer.
… Is this something you want to do explicitly.
ACTION: Steven to add the new papers as bibliography material.
ACTION: Norm to make sure there's a section on the website for a bibliography of related papers and papers that report using iXML.
Steven: I'm writing a paper for my talk at Declarative Amsterdam and I've collected many papers that quote that they're using iXML. That would also be useful.
Steven: I like the idea of subtraction, but I'd want it to be generic. I have that with a number of use cases we've discussed in the past.
Next meeting
