Info Share

xfq: next week is UTW 2024

addison: I have not one but two presentations and one of them is all about string-meta
… the other is MessageFormat

Pending Issue Review

<gb> CLOSED Action 77 create an issue against html requesting the list of named entities based on work in action 73 (on r12a) due 2024-03-07

Payments meeting

addison: I had a call yesterday with Ian and Marcos about the Payment Request
… they're bringing addresses back
… they farmed off a bunch of things to the contact picker API

addison: we had a long discussion about the challenge of structuring or not structuring those
… so you may see a resurrection of a bunch of issues under the spec contact picker
… in the near future

CSS meeting

addison: that document has no editor
… we reviewed all of the issues open

https://www.w3.org/2024/10/15-i18n-minutes.html

w3c/csswg-drafts#10803

<gb> Issue 10803 [css-text-4] [text-autospace] Spacing across element boundaries for BiDi content (by vitorroriz) [css-text-4] [Agenda+] [i18n-tracker] [Agenda+ i18n]

xfq: @@1

addison: re UTR for the text-emphasis skip property
… what Unicode needs is an editor for the document
… that would be a Unicode editor but realistically they're looking for a volunteer to do it
… in practice, there's no work

specdev #77

<gb> CLOSED Action 77 create an issue against html requesting the list of named entities based on work in action 73 (on r12a) due 2024-03-07

addison: because Unicode isn't assigning any more chars that in general that need any attention
… but if they just want to maintain it in their own space, I can't make them do the other

<addison> w3c/bp-i18n-specdev#138

<gb> Pull Request 138 Change default direction recommendation from LTR to auto. (by r12a)

r12a: files changed: 1, words changed: 1

addison: merged

<gb> CLOSED Action 77 create an issue against html requesting the list of named entities based on work in action 73 (on r12a) due 2024-03-07

String-Meta, Localizable Manifests, Specdev

<addison> w3c/string-meta#89

<gb> Pull Request 89 Address #88: Add WebIDL for LanguageMap, LanguageRecord, LanguageEntry and clean up appendix (by aphillips)

addison: I have a list of things
… the first one is this PR
… against string-meta
… which I would really love to incorporate
… this adds Web IDL to all of the structures we defined in string-meta

<addison> https://deploy-preview-89--string-meta.netlify.app/

addison: so that people can reference the Web IDL

xfq: haven't reviewed it yet

r12a: I don't have any comments
… and it looks very pretty

<r12a> +1 to merge

addison: since this is a work in progress, would you mind if I checked it in?

<Bert> +1

xfq: +1

<addison> w3c/bp-i18n-specdev#136

<gb> Pull Request 136 Change the guidelines about establishing base direction and mention ALM (by aphillips)

addison: I've started to go through the issues we have open against specdev
… I started at the bottom because some of those are quite old
… adding ALM
… we've talked about this before

<addison> https://deploy-preview-136--bp-i18n-specdev.netlify.app/#rlmlrm

addison: at this group's behest, I added examples of ALM behaviour vs non-ALM behaviour

r12a: when creating examples with Arabic, it's usually a bad idea to allow that example to break across a line because weird things happen

addison: it doesn't break for me

[Discuss the behaviour in different browsers]

r12a: it should be right aligned

addison: I'll fix up the table

<addison> w3c/localizable-manifests#19

<gb> Pull Request 19 Fix #13: broken links (by aphillips)

addison: next one should be easy
… this is a PR to fix links that are broken
… I remarked previously that I intend to come back and do some more work on localizable manifests
… any objection to merging this?

addison: when we're done, I intend to push a bunch of our recently updated documents up to /TR
… we discussed last week pushing glossary up as note status
… as opposed to draft note
… I noticed that specdev is also draft note
… should we push it up as note?
… I'll make the necessary changes as we go and push things up
… so I may do quick and dirty PRs to change the status
… if you're going to UTW, I'll see you next week

AOB?

<Najib> The groups are chartered through 16 October 2027.

<Najib> https://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-international/2024OctDec/0019.html

r12a: do we have a meeting next week?

addison: I intend to have a meeting next week
… although xfq will be in the sky or the Transportation Security Administration

r12a: and Bert and I will be on Geek Week

addison: do you all want to skip a week?

Bert: I'd like to, yes

addison: all right, so our next call will be on the 31st of October
… Halloween
