Pending Issue Review

date/time PR

<xfq> w3c/i18n-drafts#327

<gb> Pull Request 327 Add info about HTML and JS new features (by xfq)

addison: I didn't finish my review, so didn't publish yet.

addison: Touched on long-staning tension in HTML: should native controls follow the locale of the browser or the locale of the page?
… User may be looking at a French page in a browser in a US-English locale, which resutls in confusing ordering, e.g.

xfq: Do we have issues already open on this?

addison: Yes, we do.

<addison> https://github.com/w3c/i18n-activity/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+label%3As%3Ahtml+date

<addison> https://github.com/w3c/i18n-activity/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+label%3As%3Ahtml+time

xfq: That's about plain text, not about a control.

addison: Related. People may put JavaScript in their pages that give differently localized content.
… Ths issus is touching on fairly diverse, complicated things. We may want to narrow the scope.
… I see you changed the description.

xfq: An alternative is to keep the scope and write a new article about how users enter a dat. And link the two articles together.

<addison> https://w3c.github.io/timezone/

addison: If you use <input type=> with various time formats, you'll get ISO8601. If you make a new control you should do so that you get the same.
… ^^ shows various serializations you can use.

xfq: OK
… Do you want to add more comments?

addison: I'll push. I may also add more comments.
… Do other people want to review?
… I'd like to replace date and time with something like that editors' draft above. So comments on it are welcome.

xfq: We can add more information when the JavaScript API is ready.
