Meeting minutes
XR accessibility and standardization.
jasonjgw: Invites introductions ...
<MichaelC> MSF = Metaverse Standards Forum
Dylan: Intro notes XR for all work at Cornell Tech
Dylan: XAUR good start ...
Dylan: Aiming for a WCAG equivalent for XR in MSF
jasonjgw: Suggests status overview of MSF work
jasonjgw: With focus on how we might coordinate activities
Dylan: Two major activities: WG Charter with scope, milestones; Also comparative review looking for gaps
<Zakim> MichaelC, you wanted to clarify MSF role re W3C
MichaelC: Notes MSF does not create standards; rather explores what standards might be helpful
MichaelC: Notes similar work to RQTF
<Dylan> Working group charter (WIP): https://
<Dylan> Miro board: https://
Dylan: Purpose is vantage that can suggest to relevant standards organization, W3C, IETF, etc
Dylan: Role to generate insights for fully inclusive XR
Dylan: Will not dev specific solutions
Dylan: Collecting current guidance, best practices, etc
Dylan: exploring emergent needs
Dylan: Collect and learn from pwd use
Dylan: document comprehensive use cases
Dylan: Looking to identify gaps of what isn't currently covered
Dylan: features for interoperability, for UI ...
Dylan: also for generative AI
Dylan: esp low vision AI
Dylan: hope to work with platforms to see through to implementation
Dylan: Still finalizing communications plans
<MichaelC> the milestone is characteristically ambitious :)
matatk: notes W3C work on generative AI, looking for link ...
<matatk> https://
https://
jasonjgw: Invites further specifics from MSF ...
Dylan: Have reviewed current specs and bp; iso user needs, wcag, XAUR, AbleGamers APX, Game Accessibility Guidelines, Schell Accessibility Matrix, XRA Developer Guide Ch3, XBox Accessibility Guidelines, Meta VRCs, etc
Dylan: Each current doc useful ...
Dylan: MSF has begun use cases, also inclusive avatars
Dylan: Research and brain storming phase
Dylan: Hope to focus on what needs to work, not how to achieve it
jasonjgw: Expresses open to joint work where appropriate
jasonjgw: Notes APA is useful to communicate across W3C re a11y
jasonjgw: Interested in noting possible early collab points
MichaelC: Reinforces APA for coordination
Dylan: Asks about uprev of XAUR; what's the best way to update?
jasonjgw: No current effort
jasonjgw: Notes XAUR scope has been narrower than what might be wanted now
Dylan: notes jgw pointed scope of xaur; so should update or create new doc?
janina: Speaking about if we'd take up updating the XAUR, I see no reason not to - though I appreciate the scoping discussion would factor into this. We would have to look at our program of work.
janina: When we talk about normative standards, we are talking about documents that feature RFC 2119 terminology (MUST, SHOULD, MAY). They may also contain more informative parts too.
janina: The XAUR is not a normative document. APA WG can create such a document (we have before). ARIA started within APA's predecessor WG.
janina: As well as normative standards, we have 'Note' track documents that tend to be about best practice etc. XAUR fits into that group. We would need to talk about whether/when we may be at the right time to make a normative document, and could publish one later.
janina: However, don't want to get in the way of someone working on this. We could happily review, and provide feedback.
<Zakim> janina, you wanted to discuss update
MichaelC: Notes W3C will accept documents handed over from other orgs; that's expected
MichaelC: Expects MSF outputs could inform multiple pubs from W3C; WCAG, Immersive Web, XAUR, etc
MichaelC: Also multiple ways to organize the work
jasonjgw: Speculates that input to WCAG3 might be more helpful than an independent guidelines doc
jasonjgw: So it's a strategic question of what to work on and where
Dylan: long term is indeed WCAG type; esp with regulatory impact
Dylan: Notes that current practice to create web page or PowerPoint with same content is not equivalent; separate but equal isn't equal
MichaelC: Notes MSF has 2-year charter policy
MichaelC: Current proposed charter does not reach proposing guidelines yet
<Zakim> MichaelC, you wanted to mention scope of first charter
jasonjgw: Summarizes ...
jasonjgw: Asks about collab work; when? thoughts?
Dylan: Would appreciate a rapid feedback cycle; notes deep experience in RQTF in this work
Dylan: Have big organizational questions that would benefit from RQTF experience; regular checkins?
<Zakim> MichaelC, you wanted to mention reports, liaison
MichaelC: MSF produces 3-month heartbeats
MichaelC: Suggests a regular checkin helpful; clearly also participation in MSF
jasonjgw: So is there an immediate step?
MichaelC: No immediate step; MSF should reach out when we get more org'd
Dylan: Sounds good
<Dylan> that was public-rqtf@w3.org correct?
<Dylan> MSF Accessibility: accessibility@lists.metaverse-standards.org
