lisa did review of what is in content useable

rashmi going over new matrial

Text suggestion:

Some types of content are easier to use with a flatter design. However if there are a huge number of pages and categories a hierarchy can be easier.

Test the hierarchy of the site.

Can users find the page they need?

Is it better to have a flatter design or more logical hierarchy for your content ?

sometimes the levels are good

to add to 4.3.2

john: you can still chank information in a flat design

chunk

alows search in the page

rather the changing pages

depends on the content

lisa: 1. always chunk the subtopic, clear visaly way

heading stucture

if heading s are done

<kirkwood> goal: to avoid “a wall of text”

elements of flat design are the issue but not wi is the more minimlistic design

move away from sugesting avoind flat design and say:

chunck content

with good visual quies

2. avoid “a wall of text”

visual cuse or background or higheraky

<kirkwood> principles of a minimalist approach of flat design can be very good for cognitive load

balance less sections and how many steps

each group on a page is one spone. so have 6 clear groups, which one cognive spone each is ok. Then you reset and select from anoth 6.

onther aporuch is to have 6 expanadable menus . so long as they done add spones by disapring or requit=re an action to stay open that also takes a cognive spoon

john: things that are persistent such as a top menu. u can tune out

lisa: If the designhelps you tune out other section, you can reset your spones in the section you are looing at

a gray backgrou footer is both persistent and difrent backround, making it easy to tune out

john: user knows they dont need to remember what is there because they know it starys there

john: attendaion blind where you can filter out things out of focus

people who cnat shut if off may need only 4 sponce no chucking but more steps

john: heading stucture helps

ai will help

maybe a workshop in rewritng the findability pattersn how to do it way.

<kirkwood> findability workshop to incoprorate principles be clear on cognitive needs for findability

<kirkwood> foundational principles: memory, processing speed and understanding

using chunking, color and visual colors, know familure icons and design patterns etc.

topic editors meeting

<julierawe> Hi, Lisa, can we talk about the COGA style guide?

<julierawe> https://docs.google.com/document/d/18rqamyGgYF1DAUHLhsXmR20FtN9AQSaPc9zpFNN1xgM/edit#heading=h.527yvnol81gl

<julierawe> Sure, we can move or remove whole first section. I only included it because that info was on this page: https://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/task-forces/coga/wiki/List_for_final_edit#General_editorial

<julierawe> Lisa, can you share the link for this other resource you just mentioned? I do not know which doc you're talking about.

<kirkwood> impairment

<julierawe> Lisa, can you share the link to the google doc you're looking at right now?

<julierawe> "Specific edits for content usable"

<kirkwood> we avoided ‘challenges’ because challenges puts the burden on the person is the thought in US

<kirkwood> US English or UK English ?

us english

<rashmi> Making the text of hyperlinks as explicit as possible reduces cognitive effort for people, for example , with severe mental illness(SMI),Schizophrenia

<julierawe> Split in two sentences before "for example."

Making the text of hyperlinks as explicit as possible reduces the cognitive load.

This helps many groups with cognitive and mental health impaints including people living with severe mental illness (SMI) and schizophrenia.

Making the text of hyperlinks as clear as possible reduces the cognitive load.
