<gb> Issue 240 Could we build symbolic annotations with existing Web standards? (by DuncanMacWeb) [i18n-tracker]
sharon: Notes lots of discussion up to around two weeks ago
russell: Still think using unicode as key in our db is still not the best approach
russell: potential problems not that great, though
russell: Many good reasons to use it in the long term
russell: can really see both sides--could rationalize using unicode, too
russell: it would be a mistake, but we could arguably live with it
russell: notes new id created for new symbol, but old one retained
russell: old spelling could be repurposed--though it's infrequent
russell: being in unicode does make the symbols more widely available
russell: id is the symbol, but if you don't have an equivalent, you're stuck
janina: agree for display; but we also need authoring support and for that we need a concept index
russell: notes concepts not available in a base lang, say English
russell: hundreds of words in bliss vocab intersection
russell: notes bliss not conceived as chars; though reparsed to support unicode now using a sequence of bliss chars
russell: a lengthy process to get new symbols accepted into unicode
russell: more like CJK
russell: we will include unicode spelling in the registry; but doesn't replace existing ids
russell: will respond on github and explain further
russell: hopes Lionel can help with visuals of explanation
well-known URI for accessibility proposal/discuss. include in Gap analysis (Lionel)
janina: not immediately finding our meeting on this with Web Security ...
janina: They're very supportive, and they let us understand that quite a few of our proposed URIs are generally useful whether or not disability is involved
janina: We want to work with them moveing our proposed spec to FPWD; and Matthew's return will be of help on that
Abhinav: See about half a dozen proposed by W3C

sharon: This is also where our gap analysis matters
