Meeting minutes

Structure and synchronization of media resources.

jasonjgw: Good discussion last week - still working through draft email for inviting Timed Text, but that still needs more work

janina: Also looking for possible inviting additional groups to get a wide-ranging conversation

janina: We have been discussing things like applying AAC symbol sets for synchronization

jasonjgw: Aware of work under way on podcast media, but not sure if these are actual standards in process

TPAC 2023 meeting plans.

jasonjgw: Joint working group meetings are being discussed

jasonjgw: We should consider other joint meetings would be advantageous

<janina> https://www.w3.org/2023/09/TPAC/

janina: In Seville Spain the week of September 11

janina: We need to let APA know what joint group meetings we would like to arrange, length of meetings, etc.

janina: We need to identify these meetings by next week

janina: Other thoughts?

scott_h: Verifiable Credentials would be a good group

scott_h: Also perhaps COGA and WCAG

janina: Unfortunately, COGA has already mentioned they cannot meet that week

jasonjgw: What about CAPTHA work?

janina: Not sure about CAPTCHA, but verifiable credentials seems a good direction

janina: Some possible discussions on overlays

<janina> https://a11yedge.github.io/capabilities/

jasonjgw: The Web of Things addressing system configuration issues.

jasonjgw: Performance is another one

jasonjgw: Others?

Universal Design for Learning Guidelines: request from WAI-Adapt Task Force.

jasonjgw: The precise questions are still in process

janina: Discussion with a former CAST staffer; some considerations on web accessibility for children

janina: There is a web accessibility for children community group which has been looking at this

janina: Still looking at the architectural structure and personalization of web content

jasonjgw: Note that the UDL page already has an extensive literature base

jasonjgw: Not much more to do until the details on what they want to know comes in

Collaboration Tools Accessibility User Requirements.

jasonjgw: Added a note to the Wiki page to state that it was out of date and people should look at the latest document

Natural language interface accessibility in view of recent developments.

jasonjgw: Continuation of discussion on large language models

jasonjgw: The user interface for these applications have not been necessarily developed with accessibility in mind

jasonjgw: Since most a

jasonjgw: Is this an issue worth further discussion?

janina: Yes. Reminded of Jutta's recent presentation on this...lots of points could be included

jasonjgw: The unplanned unscripted nature of the interaction makes accessibility an issue

jasonjgw: When user interactions cannot be predicted in advance

janina: Discussion around training these agents to input signing

jasonjgw: Mentioned 2019 Microsoft research paper on automated sign language input/output as a good read

scott_h: We should keep this dicussion going

jasonjgw: Will keep this on future agendas

Miscellaneous updates and topics.

jasonjgw: Large language models are good at summarizing text, so that might be an accessibility angle to consider

jasonjgw: Saw a recent announcement from Google stating their AI can solve programming problems

janina: A new APA task force is in the works, FAST

jasonjgw: There will be an opportunity to vote on taskforce formation
