Discussion of WAI strategic priorities

<janina> ~q+

MichaelC: Framing the questions, what work needs to be done in web a11y

<Jem> https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1wmdQZVcoMHSeglGvR4AsPv2Osg8x3-UlKlcfI3MHZxs/edit#slide=id.g215c3632465_0_168

<Jem> Above is WAI transition proposal

janina: Maturity model will likely complete in the next year
… We can write grants around maturity model
… for example, regarding a frontend to populate a maturity model

<Zakim> MichaelC, you wanted to ask the ¨´cause no-one else is doing it¨ question and to note on funding model

MichaelC: WAI can consider grant writing, or participating in grant writing
… and WAI can take its position on Maturity Model, and if there are similar models elsewhere

janina: Maturity Model TF has answers to those questions

<maryjom> +1 to James

jamesn: Maturity Model does tend to be org-specific

jamesn: Maturity Model TF does have organizations taking up the MM and applying it, and is learning from those exercizes

MichaelC: MM is a good example of what WAI does. WAI also does exploratory work, technology work, and more
… WAI does testing, perhaps more than other groups
… WAI produces training material as well

Jem: I would like to hear about the educational resources. I believe our stakeholders could pay as well
… is there a plan for producing educational resources?

Jem: "WAI-approved educational resources" in the slide deck

MichaelC: This slide refers to WAI's concern that educational materials accurately reflect WAI guidelines

<shawn> https://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/wiki/EOWG_Current_Projects

shawn: EO is planning to request an extension to its current charter.
… and is considering decisions about retiring any existing resources, and creating new ones

janina: Shawn, please include APA

<Zakim> kevin, you wanted to say reviewing strategic priorities is something we would like to return to regularly

kevin: strategic priorities is something we would like to return to regularly and have continual input

<Jem> I see that many thoughts are put into this strategic priority proposal. Thanks, Team!

GeorgeK: Enhanced Braille activity is in progress, regarding the multiline refreshable Braille devices coming onto the market
… challenges regarding SVG
… would like WAI to be aware of this

<Zakim> MichaelC, you wanted to wrap convo and to mention technology exploration

MichaelC: Consider using a Community Group
… I am hearing overall support of the prioritization presentation as it stands

Check in on other WAI coordination projects

<Jem> +1 for support of prioritization plan.

MichaelC: We were working on a glossary and cross-group coordination

Lionel_Wolberger_: WAI was loosely tracking Community Groups and a11y in relation to their activity, this is something we could pick up again.
