question: does Braille and language interact in ways we haven't considered?

janina: it's at least worth talking about in the DPUB area

janina: there's work that I haven't followed closely enough for Braille and music notation. it could be really helpful for music education

janina: try to conclude meetings with 5-10 minutes left for whatever

janina: hoping to have a draft of the i18n action for next week

we might need to bring this up (embedded languages, creoles, etc.) with the linguists (i18n) so we can address these cases

the TTS engines may not have enough voice packs to cover these cases so filling in with IPA pronunciation could be an option

NeilS: loan words (like French words) or even UK English (e.g., aluminum) show a generic issue pattern that needs to be addressed

in general, native, oppressed, and disappearing languages/cultures should be considered in our annotation of language

janina: question for Mark: I saw something about Cambridge assessments, should we try to recruit them?

janina: they mentioned having to record things because TTS would not pronounce it correctly

mhakkinen: I'll look into them

mhakkinen: it may be helpful to also talk to Duolingo
