Meeting minutes
AG status update
Rachael: Couple things going on. WCAG 2.2 is wrapping up normative text, and hopefully move to implementation shortly
… For Silver, we're working on an updated draft and exploring the concept of different test types
… The final thing we're doing is surveying a question on how to move forward with charters.
… There's a desire to clean up WCAG 2.2, and one to focus on 3.0
… If we stay a single group we need to focus on WCAG 3.0
… If we want to do WCAG 2 work we need to split, have one group work on a final version of 2.x, and the other on 3.0.
… This survey closes tonight. We want everyone to read it ahead of time.
<Rachael> https://
Rachael: Worse case scenario from chairs perspective is we stay 1 group, keep all the work, and don't change the decision policy.
… Pro is we keep expertise together. Know quantity, no real risk of people having to split between groups.
… With two groups its focused, AG has a decision policy that makes sense for WCAG 2, but not for a spec that goes through quick iteration.
… Downside to splitting is we have fewer people focus on either effort, as if we only picked one.
Wilco: How was the decision of which TF goes with which group made?
Rachael: Content goes to the AG2 group. Mobile, LV, COGA would go to WCAG 3 effort.
… ACT supports both. It was drafted as WCAG 2.
Wilco: From my perspective, since we have rec track work focused on support for 3.0 it makes more sense to go into 3
Task force update and discussion (intro WCAG2ICT)
Wilco: Working on three major parts now
<Wilco> https://
Wilco: We are making a lot of progress in the implementation metrics
… Hoping we can get this published in the next 1/2 months
… Work through the years to compare different implementations and to show consistency
… 2) Going through rules to send to AG soon. Three of them are now ready for AG
… A couple more that are about to be finished
… When tere is an open slot on the agenda, please let us know
… WE could these in combination with the implementation publication
Rachael: It will depend on where we are in the conversation
Wilco: I will prefer ACT Rules to go on a survey
… 3) We are starting up work on V 1.1 of the Rules Format
… Gap analysis. What rules do we have for which SCs, and which SCs we are not covering right now. Also, figuring out why that is
… Conversation about how do we test things in different states and how we express these
… Shall we write a rule specifying hover and focus states or we just say you have to test links in all their states
<Zakim> shawn, you wanted to say add to https://
Shawn: Interesting to notify people about work on ACT-Rules Format 1.1. We need to make sure everybody interested is aware
… We can follow up off-line
Wilco: Sure
Shawn: There is a GitHub issue by some woh is interested
Wilco: Please point me to it
Rain: I am a co maintainer with him, I can reach to him
<Rachael> AG background slides on testing work that is going on: https://
Rain: We don't have much at the moment. We've been working on clear language. We had a guest speaker from the plain language group.
<jeanne> as there is a renewed interest in creating some creating sustainable web design recommendations as part of the W3C - https://
Rain: Now that the work statement has been approved, we're looking at subgroups, see if they need to be updated, and set clear goals.
Shawn: I've recruited an editor, but she got a new job and haven't heard anything since.
… We don't have enough people to do the work.
… We have a placeholder for low vision supplemental guidance, but don't have enough people available.
… We did some recruiting in April.
… We started a community group to increase participation. Had a few sign-ups, but we didn't get them engaged.
… Linkedin is a good suggestion.
Jeanne: Rachael has covered a lot of what's happening on Silver.
… We've also been working on analyzing existing criteria to help organize them and prepare them for migration to the WCAG 3 format.
… We're breaking criteria down into sub-criteria so they can be more easily tested.
… I'm really pleased at groups using breakout rooms to get work done in meetings when there's a lot of writing to do.
… I encourage other groups to check it out.
… It's an effective tool in zoom.
<Chuck> +1!
Kim: We have new members, several researchers. We're looking at gathering research and foundational work.
… The big concern, mobile development are not recognising their needs in WCAG.
… They should be able to apply the same things to both areas, and they're finding they can't.
… Two new members were referred, and two came through the website.
<Zakim> shawn, you wanted to mention Supplemental Guidance! :-)
<shawn> https://
Shawn: I wanted to check you're aware of the Supplemental Guidance. Mobile can be in that.
… What's there is intended to be specific guidance. It's not build a big document, it's more tips.
Rachael: WCAG2ICT is starting up soon.
… Maybe reach out to Chuck and Mary Jo to see what the merge point would be.
New business and action review
<Rachael> https://
Rachael: Please do take a look at the charters, look at the deliverables section, make sure you see your work reflected in it.
… We don't want to commit to non-normative documents, but want text to reflect what you're doing.
Rachael: Mary Jo, was wondering if you could do a quick introduction to WCAG2ICT, and what your thoughts are for mobile
MJM: Some of the things we're working on for WCAG2ICT includes mobile, not just mobile web.
… Mobile for native apps. Regulations apply WCAG to native apps
… We'll be touching on those topics and how to apply them to mobile. There are some issues open on WCAG related to applying it to mobile.
Rachael: Any other new business / connections we need to make?
… beyond recruiting, discussions of community group, are there any topics for next month's meeting?
… Sounds like we're good for today. We'll wrap up. If anything comes up e-mail me.
