Meeting minutes

Finalize User experience guide for displaying accessibility metadata: version 1.0 release.

<avneeshsingh> https://w3c.github.io/publ-a11y/UX-Guide-Metadata/principles/

<avneeshsingh> https://github.com/w3c/publ-a11y/issues

avneeshsingh: we fixed all issues for this release, there are others which requires more discussion
… we leave them for next release

gpellegrino: we have to merge the branch for images
… then I have to fix small errors on internal links and then we are ready from a formal point of view

CharlesL: right

JF: I don't know if it is the right call, I have concern about the conformsTo metadata (and the issue that Avneesh reaised about the tolerance)

avneeshsingh: this document is about display metadata, not on the metadata itself

JF: I understand, but if I have a badge on the page telling that the ebook is conformant to WCAG and then it is not...

avneeshsingh: I think it is out-of-scope for this document

JF: maybe we can add a note near conformsTo telling that there is an open issue

avneeshsingh: what do you think?

Madeleine: I think that since there is a certifier we shouldn't have problems

CharlesL: maybe we can add a note telling that conformsTo may change in the future

<JF> https://w3c.github.io/publ-a11y/UX-Guide-Metadata/principles/#example-1

George: I think that publishers can put something about the level of conformance in the accessibility summary

JF: I pasted example 1, this example tells me that this book is fully compliant

gpellegrino: I think the metadata is correct, the ebook in the example is fully conformant

avneeshsingh: maybe having a note is fine

<JF> +1 to generic Editor's Note

CharlesL: also this points to EPUB Accessibility 1.0, not 1.1 where we have relaxed the requirement for long descriptions

avneeshsingh: ok, what about having a note?

+1 to note

JF: may we add an example of an accessibilitySummary telling that the ebook is not fully compliant?

<avneeshsingh> proposal: release version 1.0 of user experience guide with editor's note that doc will be updated with update in metadata

+1

<JF> +1 to adding a note

<CharlesL> +1

<Madeleine> +1

<CharlesL> George +1

<avneeshsingh> resolved

CharlesL: where do we want to put the note?

gpellegrino: in the Principles

CharlesL: maybe also in the EPUB techniques metadata

avneeshsingh: ok

Planning for the release and promotion.

avneeshsingh: maybe we can release early and promote after one-two weeks

gpellegrino: I can work on this document this week

George: what about on the 7th the release
… and September 21st for launching the comunication

<avneeshsingh> proposed: release on sept 7, and start promotion on sept 21

+1

<CharlesL> +1

<Madeleine> +1

CharlesL: this will be a CG report, correct?
… do we need checks with the Community Group?

avneeshsingh: no

<avneeshsingh> resolved

avneeshsingh: Topic: communication
… we will need both internal and external
… the target is mainly distributor, retailers and librarians
… in W3C we'll announce in Publishing CG, EPUB 3 WG, Publishing Business Group and Publishing Steering Committee
… do you think other groups are interested?

George: I can tell about it in the chairs' call

avneeshsingh: what about outside W3C?

Madeleine: IMS Global and the libraries in Canada

George: also Bennetech is really interested, Cristina in LIA and in DAISY Sarah and Richard
… I have an IMS Global meeting tomorrow, I can tell them

avneeshsingh: why not organize a call with people outside W3C?

+1

CharlesL: what about retailers that would implement them?

George: they are target audience, but they wouldn't help with the communication

avneeshsingh: AOB
