ARIA APG Redesign Project Update

Jemma: Isaac shared email about APG Redesign feedbasck

<Jemma> http://wai-aria-practices.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com/

Jemma: shared prototype link

<Jemma> What’s your overall impression of this new Information Architecture?

<Jemma> What do you like about the new Information Architecture and why?

<Jemma> Do you consider this redesign will improve the User Experience? Why or why not?

<Jemma> What would you like to see changed and why?

<Jemma> In what way does this redesign live up to your expectations?

<Jemma> In what way has this redesign not met your expectations?

<Jemma> Are there any other comments you have about the design?

Matt_King: did Alex code the prototype?

isaacdurazo_: yes Alex put the prototype together

Matt_King: it is awesome having something to react. I have some questions regarding the template.

Matt_King: I have some questions on the template. Where is label coming from?

isaacdurazo_: alot of things are being added from the template and automatically needed.

jongund: what about bypass blocks feature?

Matt_King: do we have to add that as part of the template?

isaacdurazo_: about 90% sure it is not part of the template but will check with Alex.

Matt_King: if it is added then we can add it to provide an example to the E&O group.

Matt_King: last item on navigation, All WCAG 2 Guidance, takes you to another place and you can't get back.

isaacdurazo_: that is part of the template and should be a lower priority. Maybe in the footer.

Jemma: I am sharing the prototype screen right now.

isaacdurazo_: I acknowledge there is work to be done on the content and copy.

Matt_King: on the homepage if we help visitors understand what is on apg and get them to the place that is most helpful to them.

Matt_King: I imagine we are going to see more use of other parts of the APG

isaacdurazo_: based on Matt and Jon's feedback I believe it will be good to focus on the homepage. We do have the usability studies coming and want to wait for that data.

isaacdurazo_: updating the homepage will be a good next step.

Matt_King: I think the descriptions should be plain text and a link after the description.

Jemma: can we have a call to action button to get to the example instead of scrolling down?

Matt_King: layout is the same as the APG document

Matt_King: would that just be like a skip link

Jemma: possible use of left hand navigation like examples page

isaacdurazo_: I believe there is a component in the template that we are not using.

Jemma: my second point is we know the patterns and widgets is a living document. Do we want to add the status? Such as testing process?

Matt_King: items will not go to the website until it is done so no need for status.

Matt_King: I am thinking of breadcrumbs. Once they open an example I am not sure how they get back. I know there is a breadcrumb feature in the template. I am not sure about how the hierarchy that is needed.

Matt_King: feel the relationship between the pattern and the example are the most relevant.

Jemma: are there any other comments on the design?

Jemma: there are lots of scrolling required. Can we add a search box for Design Patterns and Widgets?

Matt_King: is the layout of fundamentals layout like cards?

isaacdurazo_: we have not done that yet and agree that the page is long

Matt_King: if we open fundamentals like patterns

Jemma: I know we are not doing content review i don't think the Examples navigation is clear in the main navigation.

Matt_King: might be better to call it index or indexes

Jemma: we are going to rethink Home and About.

Matt_King: I believe we should focus on other items since focus is not content for this stage.

Matt_King: the homepage would be abstract, introduction, mobile...

Jemma: I like John's idea about no homepage

Matt_King: abstract and introduction on homepage would be placeholders.

jongund: I think landmark regions should be at the top level

Matt_King: once we start adding content we have an ongoing debate on scaling.

isaacdurazo_: are you suggesting to have it as a drop down or its own main navigation

jongund: on the main navigation. widgets and landmark regions are different things.

Matt_King: it feels like the top level navigation should not prioritize a specific part of a specific standard.

Jemma: I have a suggestion. Add Landmark Region under patterns and widgets and change label to Patterns. Keep the landmark regions in both sections.

Matt_King: I feel we need to write new content to address Jon's concerns.

isaacdurazo_: I have been collecting feedback but structural changes will not be incorporated prior to usability testing.

Matt_King: let us talk about that. I don't feel we should hold on the changes for the usability study. we can push them back.

Matt_King: Isaac can you add the items to Issue 1 and then we can prioritize the items.

jongund: can I get an update on the PR?

Jemma: can I give you an update in 1 to 2 weeks.

Jemma: Isaac this design is very visually appealing.
