Different situations for different degrees of involvement of people with disabilities https://deploy-preview-347--wai-curricula.netlify.app/curricula/designer-modules/understanding-and-involving-users/ -- taken up [from Daniel]

Daniel: We have taken the burden from the designer to assess
... we are removing the emphasis on inclusive design

Donald: I'm happy with the change. We don't use the term in Ireland for political reasons. It is less political.

Estella: I agree with the comments. Why is this only mentioned in design and not the developers module?

Daniel: I see this as a continuation of the developers module. Some of these tasks are really going to be carried out by researchers. Developers may be involved but it is not their main task.

Estella: Sometimes I have the feeling that responsibility for the users falls too much on the designers.

Carlos: I also agree this is a better name for the module. I'm not sure that developers really should be concerned about the user aspect. Their focus is on building. Somebody has to be involved in UX research and testing what devs code.

Daniel: In the project scope we have defined a limited set of roles.

<Daniel> Roberto: The bigger the org, developers rarely have contact with end users. they know how to code in an accessible ways, they have good annotations

<Daniel> ... I don't think it is necessary

Estella: I believe that developers should be more involved. they should be involved and informed on the users needs.

Carlos: I don't see the strategy clearly presented in the learning outcomes.

Daniel: That is more developed in the last topic but I agree with what you are saying.

New approach for Visual Design and Responsive Design https://deploy-preview-347--wai-curricula.netlify.app/curricula/designer-modules/flexible-and-responsive-design/

Daniel: This is now a combination between page layout and responsive design.
... I saw my self restating many things when developing the modules. I'm now applying more emphasis to flexible design screen sizes and so on. Is it clear now?

Carlos: It makes sense. I agree with the combination.
... I only found one learning outcome that addresses allowing the user to use their own style sheet. The concern is that designers are aware that the possibility is there in the browsers.

Daniel: I can see how this may not be clear enough.

Howard: In learning outcomes I don't see anything about responsive design. Since it is there in the title it should be incorporated. Something like: know how to design pages that reflow properly.

Daniel: accessibility probably goes beyond the 3 screen sizes that you usually test for. We what designers to be aware of that. this is a good point.

Carlos: I think you already covered responsive design.
... indirectly in the learning outcomes.

Estella: I agree with both Carlos and Howard.

Daniel: It seems like responsive design is very down in the topics. something to work on.

Estella: I wonder if responsive design is the right term.

Daniel: In truth you don't cover all accessibility aspects with responsive. In the other side, if it is not properly clear we need to find out how to do that.

Howard: I wonder if something like page layout and responsive would be more appropriate as a title.

Estella: I think responsive design is more appealing but not really covered in the outcomes.

Daniel: Either we cover it better or not at all.

<Daniel> Roberto: Responsive design is a very known term. When we say it people have assumptions, in some ways they will be the same as we have, in other it may not. We are coming from different places

<Daniel> ... Can we be accessible without responsive design?

Daniel: Certainly accessibility goes well beyond responsive and we need to make that clear to explain what we mean there.

Carlos: Responsive has it own baggage as a term. What about flexible design?

Daniel: Maybe flexible layout would be an option. I'll play with that.

Scope of Information Design https://deploy-preview-347--wai-curricula.netlify.app/curricula/designer-modules/information-design/

Daniel: Carlos brought up the term information design. The term may have the same problems as responsive design. What we cover is not really what information design covers. we have reasons to split it. It is a very large topic and we also need to talk about images and other things that maybe beyond. Do you think we should continue to split the information design into smaller chunks?

Carlos: I really like the way the module is going. I do think everything should remain together. for me it would be hard too split or to remove non-text elements such as images from here.
... Maybe we could somehow state here that principles outlined here apply to other types of information and then move images to other module???

Estella: I agree with Daniel. I don't see a problem splitting because everything is related.

Carlos: there is no mention off images or charts on data visualization as it is now. I thought certain things were already covered under a previous topic (grouping). That's why I suggested to move stuff under images but I see now that Estella may be right here.

Estella points to the fact that there is no mention of complex images under that images and graphics topic like Carlos says.

Daniel: As a designer one needs to ensure that a chart is accessible from a visual stand but there is more to consider.

Donal: I work as part of a research organization and as part of information design I'm seeing more and more data visualization provided in real time as part of a dashboard, for example.

Next Steps

<Daniel> Next week we will have a meeting. Will discuss items we did not have time for today, plus others that may arise as I continue to develop the sections that are still incomplete.
