Comments / first reactions to new overview page structure

<dmontalvo> https://‌deploy-preview-119--wai-curricula.netlify.app/‌curricula/

Daniel: We decided to include the supporting materials in the overview page. We have a summary box website design with the most important issues...
... the bullets focus on the activities and roles...
... now we have an overview with some bits of how to combine the different materials and that we do not endorse any certification...
... but this new structure allows people to compare available training. Any thoughts?

Donal: I like the structure. The teaching and best practices I will need to read it again but it looks well.

Shadi: They are not really teaching best practices but conveying accessibility. Is this the issue?

Donal: This is not really the issue.

Shadi: Our focus is on how to include accessibility so that's why I was asking.

Carlos: I agree Shadi that we may have also to cover the accessibility in the heading

Daniel: maybe "tips for accessible teaching"?

+1 to include accessibility in the heading

<shadi> [[Accessible Teaching Best Practices]

<shadi> [[Accessibility Teaching Best Practices]]

<shadi> [[Tips on Accessibility Teaching]]

<shadi> [[Guidance on Accessibility Teaching]]

Donal: Yes, including accessibility in teaching is important.

<shadi> [[Best Practices on Accessibility Teaching]]

Donal: Best practices related on how you teach.

<shadi> [[Best Practices on How to Teach Accessibility]]

Daniel: This title need some refinement.

<shadi> [[Tips on How to Teach Accessibility]]

<shadi> [[Guidance on How to Teach Accessibility]]

Donal: Tips for including accessibility in your teaching

<shadi> [[Tips for Including Accessibility in Your Teaching]]

<shadi> Estella: suggest to tie this to Universal Design teaching principles

<shadi> ...accessibility is part of that

<shadi> Daniel: adding something like "the following tips are in the broader context of universal design principles"?

<shadi> Estella: maybe

<shadi> ...making a connection between the two terms

<shadi> ...accessibility and universal design

https://‌www.cast.org/‌publications/‌2014/‌universal-design-learning-theory-practice-udl-meyer

Shadi: we have a all section on Universal Design.

Daniel: I need to see how accessibility could be part of the universal design principles.

Shadi: This is about the organization of teaching, inclusive education.

Carlos: I think that it makes more sense to include it in another part.

Shadi: Maybe we can see how it could be integrated.

<donal_r> Another suggestion for the section header [[Incorporating accessibility into your teaching]]

Daniel: Other comments?

Changes made for activities to be more prominent (mainly top summary box and overview table)

Daniel: There was one comment by Dave to not pointing to roles but to activities
... now we speak about development, design and authoring rather than the name of the role. Also in the introduction we also have this relation between activities and roles. Do you agree?

Donal: It does not seem to be consistent throughout the page. The idea is to move away from roles and towards activities?

Daniel: We may have both but we have to see how to make it consistent. What are the views of the others?

Carlos: In a previous meeting we already agreed to use both, not only roles but also activities.

Daniel: Yes in the table roles we use the role name and when we try to communicate what is that for we use the tasks.

Shadi: I know that we agreed in a previous meeting but what are we missing?

Shadi: When you have the foundation modules without roles, does it explain that applies to all three roles?

Daniel: Maybe for us is clear but maybe somebody from outside may not see it that clear.

Shadi: We could also open brackets and say (open for all roles). I am just wondering.

Donal: Maybe being explicit could be a solution to make it more understandable.

Daniel: We would be removing development, design and authoring and we would add suitable for all roles. Carlos what do you think?

Carlos: I really don't know, it seems that we are going back to were we where. The reason why we have development, design and authoring is because our main audience are teachers of the resources.

Daniel: Now we have explanations on the summary box.

Donal: I was just saying that adding that foundation modules apply to all roles would make it more clear.

Daniel: We can look at it.

Carlos: We do have the introductory section that it relates to this.

Carlos: The table is more a best practice.

Shadi: In the paragraph above the table is about to say that modules can be combined. This to me is the mechanical aspect...
... in best practice the information that we want to provide is that the different roles and tasks are bound together...
... Carlos do you still feel that it does not belong here?

Carlos: we need to rephrase in order to make it more clear.

Carlos: Trying to conveyed more explicitly. Some type of explanation to highlight the importance of the relation between the different roles and tasks.

Daniel: Cross references have to be made in the materials. We can introduce the interrelated requirements. Even if you teach in role bases they need to count on the different roles to succeed in accessibility

Daniel: Anything else on this?

New approach towards certification/accreditation

Daniel: We removed the certification section that we had before. We had the question how if I study this by myself? Will I succeed in obtaining a certification? Maybe adding a sentence about "this materials are only guidance for course materials" would that help? What do you think?

Donal: I would only do this if is really need and a real risk.

Shadi: I think that this stands as a reaction that we had at the beginning.
... one of the things that we are trying to develop is to create a list of training programs and certification programs that would match this curriculum....
