trackbot, start meeting

<trackbot> Meeting: Silver Task Force Teleconference

<trackbot> Date: 16 December 2016

<scribe> Scribe: Sarah

Shawn: Stakeholder map and stakeholder responses

Stakeholder Map

Link to stakeholder map doc: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1XK_evYulIaLsYOlMjuDOC763xWL2TOM9SvPjRX_d9ag/edit?usp=sharing

Shawn: Next step is to review the stakeholder map and stakeholder submissions, turn map into wiki page
... Send to working group once wiki page, request suggestions for roles that aren't on the map
... Take names from stakeholder submissions and fill in roles

<scribe> ACTION: Jeanne will create wiki page of map [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2016/12/16-silver-minutes.html#action01]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-16 - Will create wiki page of map [on Jeanne F Spellman - due 2016-12-23].

<scribe> ACTION: Shawn and Jemma will work on mapping names and roles [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2016/12/16-silver-minutes.html#action02]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-17 - And jemma will work on mapping names and roles [on Shawn Lauriat - due 2016-12-23].

Jeanne: Need to be cautious of names that are multiple roles, don't want to make too many contacts when people have multiple roles

Shawn: Verify roles when mapping
... Will be emailing people and listing roles, which is another opportunity to verify accuracy of roles

Judy: What is concern of multiple roles?

Jeanne: People would get too many surveys

Judy: Surveys are different by role? Might want to find out primary role. Might not want to exclude people from surveys because they have perspectives

Shawn: Want to make sure people have a voice for different roles
... People helping with surveys will have ideas on how to do it

Jeanne: Received two contacts from screen reader vendors

Shawn: Areas to expand stakeholder submissions: Accessibility designers and developers, AT developers
... content providers/producers, designers, developers
... Disability organizations (need more diversity), IT managers, lawyers

These are listed on the Stakeholder Roles and Activiites spreadsheet in the "Action" column

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1XK_evYulIaLsYOlMjuDOC763xWL2TOM9SvPjRX_d9ag/edit?usp=sharing

Judy: Will help with identifying global representatives from disability organizations

Shawn: Also more representation of people with disabilities

And platform developers, product managers, QA specialists

Shawn: 260 submissions so far, not too many duplicates

Judy: want to make sure there's a role for regulators, might be policy makers? How are you populating
... How are you populating lawyers role?

Jeanne: Have only had survey to have people submit names. Have only just starting reaching out to fill gaps

Judy: Will help out identifying international lawyers
... Also regulators role

<jeanne> https://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/task-forces/silver/wiki/Research_Projects

<jemma> I think having "regulator' specifically in the stakeholder map is very important as Judy addressed.

review updates to the Research Design page

Jeanne: Does the research data clarification work?

Dave: Yes, it answers the key questions, and address any issues that arise.

Jemma: Data is raw data, not the analysis?

Jeanne: Most of data is surveys, doing in partnership with task force
... Is there a way we can make that more clear?

<scribe> ACTION: Jeanne and Jemma to clarify language under expectations related to data [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2016/12/16-silver-minutes.html#action03]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-18 - And jemma to clarify language under expectations related to data [on Jeanne F Spellman - due 2016-12-23].

Jemma: May need an IRB (institutional review board) review if we are doing research through universities

<Judy> [JB: Whether IRB applies would depend on where the survey is conducted from]

Jeanne: Will need to consider that when we start setting up surveys

Judy: What are the timelines for developing survey questions? Typically most difficult part is developing questions and getting feedback on how they are asked
... Quality of result depends on quality of questions

Jeanne: Agree completely, validity is extremely important, research partners are important to help design the surveys
... Anyone who has IP or patents on any part that's written into W3C specs will relinquish so that specs can be property of W3C, thinking about this in advance so we don't get blocked moving forward
... Have been discussing creating a community group for researchers, gives us ability to ensure the patent/IP requirements are set from the start of research
... Not decided, just under consideration

Judy: Might want to make sure it has clear purpose, make clear coordination, Charter still under discussion, courteous to wait until those issues are settled

Jeanne: Community group agreement, no restriction on faculty except attribution if on spec

Dave: Good to be up front allows people to take part with understanding, motivation is to contribute to developing standards, significant impact, demonstrate work helped influence development of standard

Jeanne: Would it help to describe how we will acknowledge their work?

Dave: Academic review, looks a number of pubs, number of citations, others include work that influences standards, would be helpful to describe acknowledgement

<scribe> ACTION: Jeanne to determine how we can acknowledge contributions [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2016/12/16-silver-minutes.html#action04]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-19 - Determine how we can acknowledge contributions [on Jeanne F Spellman - due 2016-12-23].

This is the design plan document: https://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/task-forces/silver/wiki/Design_Plan_for_Silver

<scribe> ACTION: Jeanne will put each research activity in its own row in the timeline so we can track the activities separately [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2016/12/16-silver-minutes.html#action05]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-20 - Will put each research activity in its own row in the timeline so we can track the activities separately [on Jeanne F Spellman - due 2016-12-23].

Dave: Next steps for research partners
... Lots of positive response to the way research community has been asked to be involved
... Some people have identified specific activities that they are interested in
... Next step could be to review areas of interest/expertise to see how they map to research activities

Sarah: Some people have specific topics they want to make sure are part of thinking for accessibility guidelines, might be stakeholders

Dave: Might be good to create a short survey to identify how people would be willing to be involved

Jeanne: Isn't that better to do one to one?

Dave: There are quite a few respondents, survey provides list of options and provides option to provide more information

Shawn: Talking about having a generic response, making some things targeted to specific background

Dave: Preference would be to have online form, allows people to respond to taskforce rather than individual
... Taskforce partner could do follow-up

Jeanne: Dave, draft questions, Jeanne can turn into survey

<scribe> ACTION: Dave will draft questions and share with taskforce [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2016/12/16-silver-minutes.html#action06]

<trackbot> Error finding 'Dave'. You can review and register nicknames at <https://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/task-forces/silver/track/users>.

<scribe> ACTION: David will draft questions and share with taskforce [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2016/12/16-silver-minutes.html#action07]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-21 - Will draft questions and share with taskforce [on David Sloan - due 2016-12-23].

CSUN "Town Hall" description and catchy name brainstorm

Jeanne: Have CSUN session Friday at 3:20 in the Google room
... Need session name and description

Shawn: Adapt blurb from other session, reversed so it's "we want your feedback"
... brainstorming names ensued
