Steven: Basically I didn't get any substantive reponse; I think we have waited long enough, so I propose we just go ahead with the Unicode definition of whitespace (for the whitespace MIP)

Erik: We could make serialise so that it never fails, but Alain said that there could be errors, and even XPath3 generates dynamic errors.
... So the function can fail.
... all I did was improve the text about synamic errors so that it was closer to XPath3
