title: Accessibility DPUB Task Force Weekly Meeting

<Jean> I'm still here....

Jean, mathml has been ignored by the browsers, and peter is suggesting that we need to do something better

scribe: , mathjax in stead of throwing in their lot hoping that browsers will implement it.. but rendering things in css and svg.

1. Update of Jean’s edits on separate branch (Can we merge with master branch)

Jean, I don't have write access so I did this on a separate branch.

Tzviya, I spoke to jean about last minute tweaks. Micheal recommend to not point to any specific Working Group. Once that is in there then we are good to go.

Jean, cloned the wrong branch but will figure it out.

Tzviya, I can send you the file if you don't have it and will copy deborah

Jean, I will try to get for this today.

Tzviya, Jean just make your edits then send it to Deborah and she can deal with github.

Tzviya, Jean only add Michaels edits not Alisters comments.

<tzviya> • Reorg doc: Discoverability and optimized should be much earlier

<tzviya> • Didn’t we agree to cut drop caps?

<tzviya> • Section 2.1: Alistair’s comments basically said this was wrong. We need to either come up with better use cases or reword

<tzviya> • Skippability/escapability needs to be rewritten from audio book perspective (as is, already part of WCAG – I think). Romain should be able to offer input.

<tzviya> • Pagination – we need to clarify that this refers to page markers. Be cautious about correspondence with print. It does not always exist, but this is still a v useful feature

<tzviya> • Clean up section 2.6 – clarify that need explicit direction in WAI APG

<tzviya> • Remove the named contacts and replace with GitHub repos when possible (e.g. DPUB-ARIA tracker)

Charles: so Disc/Opt should be 2, 3
... I thought we decided to dropcaps
... I will do both of those

Tzviya: we need to come up with a better use-case for packages since Alister said that is just a failed link.

Jean: does my explanation of packages help?

Tzviya: bidirectional linking. there is WCAG req for navigation and not have broken links. I am trying to come up with a use-case for packaging. Alister brought up that there is a "set" of documents.

Jean: is this just vocabulary issue?

Tzviya: we are trying to define the problem not find the solution.

Jean: we should find the vocabulary between WCAG / DPUB

Tzviya: bypass block 241, multiple ways 245 /248. WCAG is a little week in cross reference documents / bundled content
... , DPUB primarily supports multiple interrelated documents

Jean, we want to give the impression that these are not random. We want to make sure that these are a collection or "package" or "packages" of interrelated documents.

tzviya, these uses cases need to be beefed up. in bullet (bidirectional linking)

scribe: , second use case how can we clarify this.

jean, got collection, got links, and you have a third source of linking from one to another in a specific order, and each page could be WCAG compliant but not all hocked up to the 3rd navigation document.

<tzviya> The individual components may not be WCAG-compliant because they lack elements such as navigation, but the package will be wcag-compliant because therere is a detailed navigation element that acts as a directory that acts as a directory for the whole package

<tzviya> rec: add discussion of a group of docs that are accessible as a bundle to guidelines

Tzviya, Romain may be able to offer input on skipability/esc needs.

Tzviya, page markers not pagination.

Charles, will send agenda / minutes to entire dpub group not just a11y tf moving fwd.

Tzviya, add 1 sentence that this is not just a throwback to print.

Jean, how do you explain this to web people.

tzviya, Matt and I talked about calling this page makers and not specifically marking the specific page.

scribe: , section 2.6 deep nesting headings… I will do this
... , Charles will remove specific names for authors.
... , and link to github repos instead.

Charles, I will wait until all Jeans edits are finished first before making my edits.

Tzviya, Jean will become an invited expert.
