ISSUE-156: Deprecate :DateTimeInterval
Deprecate :DateTimeInterval
- State:
- CLOSED
- Product:
- Time ontology in OWL
- Raised by:
- Simon Cox
- Opened on:
- 2017-04-05
- Description:
- time:DateTimeInterval is a specialization of timme:ProperInterval, which attempts to leverage specific time encodings as a kind of shortcut, compact representation for proper-intervals. They have an implicit duration corresponding to the precision or granularity of the time representation.
To me this all looks a bit forced, and also crosses the (admittedly rather blurred) line between semantics and representation. I actually had a hard time getting compelling examples, especially using the time:xsdDateTime variant - for example I con't figure out how to describe a single second|minute|hour starting at midnight. Looks ambiguous and to have marginal utility to me.
I have only tracked down one evidence of use, in the linked-events ontology, so have reached out to hte original creator of that to see if marking DateTimeInterval 'deprecated' would break anything significant. - Related Actions Items:

Related notes:
Not deprecated - used in PeriodO.
However, will deprecated alternative encoding :xsdDateTime since it is not at all clear how it works for some key cases.
