Debrief from W3C Technical Plenary (TPAC)

SAZ: technical plenary meeting was interesting. semantic web & schema.org,
... group trying to build schmea for physical accessibility, thus interesting for the upcoming way finding symposium e.g. IBM, Apple
... Microsoft wants to contribute to the syposium. There is potential interest from industry
... one of the leaders of the Internet of things from Siemens Germany was very interested in the accessibility aspects. They are collecting use cases for web of things. they want to learn about Challenges and opportunities in this area
... We need to focus not only on user interface. Furthermore we need to address automotive industry. Mapping and visualization of wayfinding should be addressed in a separate event

Status update on Way-Finding symposium

RESOLUTION: Accessibility and Way-finding, Navigation and Exploration systems Online

<sharper> Symposium 3 December 2014

Vivienne: way finding symposium: We are working on dividing the papers on 4 sessions.
... we will follow the way of the last symposium in the way to have a discussion format rather than a presentation

<annika> First thought about sessions is to have 4 sessions (about half an hour each) 1. user interfaces 2. data gathering 3. data format issues - theoretical papers about ontologies, taxonomies etc. 4. way-finding, annotation and integration in existing systems

Christos: in addition to what Vivienne and Annika presented, it would be good to prepare an introduction for each paper, then short time to present the papers.
... most papers ar focused on data gathering and formats, some papers about user interfaces. We can ask authors about integration
... In the call we had 3 aspects, so we can divide the s one for data gathering, data gathering accessibility, data format and taxonomies
... we will involve all authors in all sessions. The last half an hour will be an open discussion attracting the audience to stay. We will prepare the agenda until next Monday. 2 hours + the half hour at the end
... I am wondering if the total time of the symposium is only 2 hours. We suggest to add half an hour at the end

SAZ: nor problem to extend the symposium. I do not recommend to go for three hours.
... We should plan a ten minutes break in between. Experience with this kind of organisation was good

Christos: I do not know if we will have a 10 minutes break in between or we should go for a 5 minutes break!

SAZ: The break before the open discussion session will allow people who are not any more interested to go. All others will stay. I still suggest a break after one hour

Christos: The good point is to split in two main one hour sessions and a break in between should be fine. After then two hours another break before the open discussion session

SAZ: regarding the duration we have flexibility there, whatever you need. You can plan the break as you like. I appreciate organizing by topic rather than by paper. We will follow then the approach as by other symposia
... please introduce the sessions in a 5 minutes and wrap up at the end as well in 5 minutes
... I like the prepared agenda, you do not need to give all papers the same time, you can separate the session upon your prefences
... How does it look like with Wednesday meeting until the symposium?

SH: this is the last day Shadi will be available on Wednesday before the syposiem

Christos: no problem, we will communicate via e-mail
... you usually provide a channel for people to ask questions / input before the symposium?

SAZ: yes we will put the e-mail address in the announcement. Please contact me for any question until then
... on the 03.12.2014 we have to cancel the official RDWG meeting as we will have the syposium on that day

<shadi> "3 December 2014: Online symposium event, probably 15:00-17:00 UTC"

SH: 15:00 - 18:00 UTC

<shadi> (from http://www.w3.org/WAI/RD/2014/way-finding/)

Annika: will we have an audio recording or just the transcript?

SAZ: not yet! If needed we can do it

SH: if we want to record, we should inform people before

Annika: only for the preparation of the note!

Christos: from the UM symposium it is easier to work with the transcript rather than with audio recording.

SH: it helps if you have the time to listen to the recordings for better intelligibility
... you can do it on your own computer for personal use.

Christos: we can contact the authors afterwards to ask abouting missing pieces and confusing transcript

SAZ: if you want it, we should add it to the announcement.

Vivienne: just for personal use.

<annika> Agree with Vivienne.

SH: transcript only should be okay. May be adding recording will add additional overhead e.g. at the registration page!

Christos: may be we should try it at the next symposium!

SAZ: Do not try to cover everything in the symposium, we could discuss aspects in the group as structured discussions afterwords.
