Review of Aging & Dementia sub-group wiki information

Katie: We want to know if this is the right level of content in the section.

<slee> sorry I'm late

<slee> Hi richardschwerdtfeger

<Lisa_Seeman> Cognitive Decline Due to Aging

<Lisa_Seeman> Symptoms: Cognitive Decline Due to Aging

<Lisa_Seeman> Characteristics of Content Optimized for Aging and Dementia

<Lisa_Seeman> a bit cofucing

LS: Give more context on the repeated sub-headings as they get confusing
... ICT challenges should be only technology challenges instead of things like losing keys.
... The more you can put into the ICT challenges and user stories, the better.
... For someone with Alzheimers, larger fonts is an issue, but if it is a setting or a step they have to do to increase the font it can be an issue because it adds another step to remember.
... for how they use the web section. Where do people with alzheimers give up, what are they avoiding because it is too hard to do?

<Lisa_Seeman> http://www.w3.org/2001/06/manual/#citation

LS: Follow W3C guidance on how to cite materials.

<Lisa_Seeman> https://www.w3.org/WAI/PF/cognitive-a11y-tf/wiki/Gap_Analysis/Dyslexia#Challenges

KD: Has references of recent papers of what people with aging and dementia want in technology. Will send these to the list after the call.

LS: Could brainstorm what could be done in Web content for people who are aging or have dementia.
... Reading is one of the last capabilities to go, so having symbols along with text is best.
... Have less function per screen or page. Essential interface is less confusing
... Have a very standard interface. Easier to remember.

Adaptable web content

LS: There may be different user needs per disability type. It is important to understand what optimized content is best for each of the groups.
... Also to know what semantics are needed for each of the groups.
... If you've got a page and want a way to make a standard menu that is usable by people with dementia, or another cognitive disability. What would that look like?

<richardschwerdtfeger> Here is the floe project: http://www.floeproject.org/

<richardschwerdtfeger> click on the show display preferences

<Lisa_Seeman> http://www.aiu.ac.jp/~naganuma/basicinternetvocab.html

LS: Standard symbol semantics and vocabulary could be helpful.

<Lisa_Seeman> http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml-rdfa-primer/

KD: We could categories for available technologies - like which make content adaptable, etc.
... Standard readability metrics focus on the text not the reader.
... Sentence length would likely have an effect on readability and understandability.

LS: We could put together a page of what's useful to make content adaptable.
... Will make a first pass on creating the adaptable page.

SK: Once the page is started it's easier to contribute. We can collect technologies on the page and everyone can look to see if they have anything to contribute.

HTML 5 wishlist

LS: The current list is what PF wants

<Lisa_Seeman> http://www.w3.org/WAI/PF/HTML/wiki/51wishlist

LS: Please take a look from our task force's perspective
