1.4

action-979 http://www.w3.org/WAI/UA/tracker/actions/979

draft proposal for 1.4

<Greg> "Line spacing range including 1 and 2, with at least one step in between"?

1.4.1 - add line spacing as a bullet

<Greg> Line spacing, range includes 1x and 2x the base size, with at least one step in between

Line spacing, choosing from 1x to 2x the base size, with at least one step in between

Line spacing, choosing from 100% to 200% the base size, with at least one step in between

Line spacing, choosing from 1x to 2x the font size, with at least one step in between

Line spacing, choosing from at least 1x to 2x the font size, with at least one step in between

<Greg> It will be odd for 1.4.1 to have one item with very specific numbers, the rest being left entirely vague (e.g.you can comply with only two text scale choices, 1x and 10x).

<Greg> We could either leave the Level A requirement vague, without numbers, like we do for text scale, or we could make them both have numbers, or just leave one specific and one vague.

<Greg> Although in 1.4.1 only scale is vague; color and font are very specific.

Line spacing, choosing from a range of at least three

Line spacing, choosing from a range of at least three values

REmove lines spacing from 1.4.3

Proposed: Add to 1.4.1 Line spacing, choosing from a range with at least three values
... remove Lines spacing from 1.4.3

character spacing

WD: Character spacing MIN 0.02 to MAX 0.1
... character .01 to .1, much beyond it slows the reader down.

<Greg> Wayne also said "character spacing is most effective at .1"

[from the meeting of 8 May. Wayne was not on the call today]

<Greg> That's presumably adding an extra .01 to .1 em to the default character spacing.

<Greg> Adding an extra .01 to .1 *base character width* to the default character spacing.

Margins move to AA

Character spacing stays at AA

Text style moves to AAA

Margins = spacing between columns of text

<Greg> When we talk about margins, are we talking about the common meaning of page margins, or the CSS meaning of margins for anything and everything?

<Greg> Between or around?

around

<Greg> "Margins around columns of text"?

<Greg> Wayne proposed moving margins from AAA to AA, saying "there is one need group that would need column width and spacing issues to be AA...folks with 'tunnel vision' need the reduced spacing..."

Proposed: margins around columns of text will move into 1.4.3

<Greg> I'd be happy with titles like "Basic text formatting (Globally)", "Advanced text formatting (by Element)", etc.
