1. WCAG review of ARIA-edit: F63: Failure of Success Criterion 2.4.4 due to providing link context only in content that is not related to the link

BB asked what they had to do with WAI RIA

LGR: We went through existing failures and added text about WAI ARIA to failure to ensure they were not overly strict

<Joshue> +q

<Zakim> MichaelC, you wanted to say the structure of failure ¨techniques¨ is increasingly not working for us; this is another point; I want to continue to explore alternate approaches

MC: structure of failure ¨techniques¨ is increasingly not working for us; this is another point; I want to continue to explore alternate approaches

<Loretta> Evaluators find them very useful.

JO: unexplored canon, common failures, so maybe others find that also, I never use them

AWK: People reference failure when trying to understand what was meant...

DM: Many say if a failure is not listed it is not a failure

MC: don't have to change it now, but we should consider new format as a future discussion

AWK: wonder about support for Definition List

<Joshue> JOC: FWIW, I also agree with Bruce.

JAWS 14 announces definition list

<Joshue> +q to say its a problem because of the title 'Failure Example 3: Using a Definitions List"

<Zakim> Loretta, you wanted to say that this SC has always pushed the border on accessibility support

Discussion about failures

GV: shouldn't have failures based on accessibility support

I/i see my typing

<Joshue> James have you a URI?

<Joshue> I can't find the comment.

<AWK> http://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG20-TECHS/H81.html

<Joshue> +1 from me

DM: Next vsion of WCAG should require descriptive links, since ARIA etc... allows this to be done ... and we've solved the problem of allowing visual link like click her, while describing it programmatically

AWK: Yes let's drop ex three... definition list because it is conflict with 81

BB: Let's change names of other examples.... ex. 2 link in an adjacent cell within a layout table

Resolution: removed ex. 3 definition lists, changed titles of first two examples

<scribe> ACTION: Joshue to respond with Sailesh [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2013/08/06-wai-wcag-minutes.html#action01]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-209 - Respond with Sailesh [on Joshue O Connor - due 2013-08-13].

2. WCAG review of ARIA-edit: F59: Failure of Success Criterion 4.1.2 due to using script to make div or span a user interface control in HTML without providing a role for the control

RESOLUTION: accept F59 as proposed
... Accept WCAG review of 'Using aria-labelledby for link purpose' technique as proposed

WCAG review of HTML5 spec on text alternatives

<Loretta> I wish there were some mention of the relevant aria attributes in this section; the discussion of "What an img element represents depends on the src attribute and the alt attribute." is very detailed.

<AWK> Agree with Loretta on that point

LGR: I wish there were some mention of the relevant aria attributes in this section; the discussion of "What an img element represents depends on the src attribute and the alt attribute." is very detailed.

MC: at one point we agreed to take of the section on alt text in HTML5
... it is up to us to decide what we want to do... either vote, or send feedback as a group, helpful advice and critical advice
... We could resolve to oppose it if we felt that way but it doesn't seem our sentiment

AWG: 4.8.1.20 conformance checker ... figcaption, or includes a nonconforming attribute to communicate... strange.. since there ae conforming attribute

<Joshue> +q

<Joshue> http://dev.w3.org/html5/alt-techniques/

DM: some concern that there will be advice there frozen, and best proactises might change

JO: alt aria labelledby, describedby could replace alt in some examples.
... should we make a formal exchange... between group members to Steve

s/memebers/members

DM: I've made my comments as a member of e HTML A11Y task force

RESOLUTION: leave this open for 2 weeks for member to fill in comments to A11Y TF

Institutional Memory

LGR: Should we do a WIKI, one page per SC, and a site map

<scribe> ACTION: Michael to set up institutional memory in WIKI [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2013/08/06-wai-wcag-minutes.html#action02]

<trackbot> 'Michael' is an ambiguous username. Please try a different identifier, such as family name or username (e.g., cooper, melledge).

<scribe> ACTION: Cooper to set up institutional memory in WIKI [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2013/08/06-wai-wcag-minutes.html#action03]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-210 - Set up institutional memory in WIKI [on Michael Cooper - due 2013-08-13].

LGR: let's block off time for this short chunks to do this during meetings
... define institutional memory

MC: wil put definition on the landing page
