Survey from 6 November

<Andi> https://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/55145/KeyTerms/results#xWCAGEDIT

Some of the terms were taken to the WCAG working group for approval and WCAG had some edits. In addition, there were some unaddressed comments from Loic that are included in this survey.

Discussion on 'content' term.

WCAG was clear that in their definitions that they mean 'Web content'. Gregg's proposal is that we define 'content' more broadly.

Note 1 will have to change: To say we are talking about 'content' instead of 'non-web content'.

Discussion on including 'code or markup that defines' in the definition.

That phrase added back in since it was in the WCAG edited version.

Proposal made to remove the first note in light of edits made in the meeting.

<greggvanderheiden> Note: Non-web content occurs in two places; documents and software. When content occurs in a document, a user agent is needed to in order to communicate the content's information and sensory experience to the user. When content occurs in software, a separate user agent isn't required - the software itself does that.

<greggvanderheiden> that is Peters suggestion for Note

Discussion on 'document' term.

<Andi> assembly of content, such as a file, set of files, or streamed media, that is not part of software and that does not include its own user agent

For the document definition - the M376 didn't like the use of the word 'files' in the definition and so used 'logically distinct assembly' instead.

There is support for using a generic term, and a proposal was made to use 'assembly of content' and in the examples include 'files'.

<Andi> proposal for document: assembly of content (a file, set of files, or streamed media) that is not part of software and that does not include its own user agent

<Andi> proposal for document: assembly of content, such as a file, set of files, or streamed media that is not part of software and that does not include its own user agent

<korn> Andi, I think we need to start with "an". So: "an assembly of..."

Definition of 'User agent'

We could approach this term the same way we approached 'content'.

2nd sentence in introductory paragraph conflicts with our definition of user agent for WCAG2ICT.

<Andi> For WCAG2ICT, the term needs to be applied to content that is not on the web and is used as follows:

Discussion on further edits to the first paragraph for 'user agent' definition. Proposal to order the definitions with 'user agent' coming after the definitions for content, document, and software.

<korn> Gregg: please change it to: "For non-web ICT this needs to be viewed differently."

WCAG edits to the definitions

These are marked in red and purple strikethrough text.

These edits are mostly editorial. The most substantive change was adding 'For example, a driver with no user interface would not be covered.' to note 2 of software definition.

We further edited this to: 'For example, driver software with no user interface would not be covered.'

RESOLUTION: Accept edits to the section on understanding key terms as amended in EDITS FROM 2012-11-06 MEETING OF WCAG2ICT.

Including or excluding the parenthetical term 'non-web' in the definitions

If we include 'non-web' in our definitions, then we can't use that term directly in the SC that use those terms. Proposal was made to NOT include 'non-web' in the definitions.

Our current edits of the terms do not include 'non-web'.

RESOLUTION: No action.

WCAG edits of key terms

RESOLUTION: No action on WCAG edits of key terms, since proposals already covered in previous resolutions.

Note on UAAG

https://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/55145/KeyTerms/results

This is useful, but may be better covered in the introduction rather than the definitions.

<Andi> ACTION: Peter to work with Alex, Kiran, and Gregg to draft introductory text to address the UAAG concern with user agent [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2012/11/06-wcag2ict-minutes.html#action01]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-77 - Work with Alex, Kiran, and Gregg to draft introductory text to address the UAAG concern with user agent [on Peter Korn - due 2012-11-13].

Title of the WCAG2ICT document

<greggvanderheiden> https://sites.google.com/site/wcag2ict/home/introduction-to-wcag2ict-application-note/general-introduction-text

There was a concern that this draft document might be misunderstood to be on track to become a standard rather than a note. There was a proposal distributed to modify the abstract, status, and intro to redundantly make this clear.

<greggvanderheiden> here are the changes that judy is referring to

<greggvanderheiden> https://sites.google.com/site/wcag2ict/home/--frontmatter-for-wcag2ict

<greggvanderheiden> the edits is shown in RED and also summarized at the bottom for screen reader users (search for "summary of edits" )

There is also a proposal to change the title of our document which we'll need to address.

<greggvanderheiden> there are also edits made to intro at https://sites.google.com/site/wcag2ict/home/introduction-to-wcag2ict-application-note/general-introduction-text (those edits were also included on the previous page

Judy is seeking comment on the proposed updates sent out to the task force members.

Specifically comment on whether there are specific problems that aren't already addressed in the intro and reinforced in the abstract and status.

Work left to do

Address remaining comments on our draft.

Definition of conformance.

other remaining term definitions
