ACTION items due by Thursday, August 9 None

paulc: none
... I have an action item due next week on the responsive images

New Issues This Week

paulc: we have none (one tracker request still hasn't been dealt with)

Items Closed Last Week

issue-204?

<trackbot> ISSUE-204 -- Exempt ARIA attributes from the rule that prohibits reference to hidden elements -- open

<trackbot> http://www.w3.org/html/wg/tracker/issues/204

paulc: survey closed aug 3rd; because this issue is on the critical path, the chairs have been prioritizing this item
... nothing to report as of yet

issue-131?

<trackbot> ISSUE-131 -- Should we add a caret location API to canvas, or is the focus API sufficient? -- open

<trackbot> http://www.w3.org/html/wg/tracker/issues/131

paulc: extension closed aug 3rd

http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html/2012Aug/0074.html

paulc: rich is travelling this week and next
... this issue is not on the critical path, so we will monitor the progress

Items Closing This Week

issue-206?

<trackbot> ISSUE-206 -- Should HTML5 have a meta generator exception to the alt requirement? -- open

<trackbot> http://www.w3.org/html/wg/tracker/issues/206

paulc: the call for consensus passed, but there has been considerable discussion and new proposals.

mike: I think we have complete agreement to drop the meta generator exception, what we don't have agreement on is whether we need to replace that with some other mechanism
... we have some momentum to adding a new attribute; the points of contention are the attribute name and what the validation should be
... the fundamental disagreement is over what the default should be on whether errors should be reported if this attribute is present
... key people are laura/janina and henri; I've tried to make suggestions to see if we can find middle ground
... I've got a few messages out, waiting for feedback from Henri
... I want to put together another proposal which synthesizes the discussion; plan to get to this by next week

paulc: is there a believe that a replacement is needed in HTML5, or can it be delayed to HTML.next

mike: that has not been discussed, but I believe that there is some desire to have it sooner

paulc: it might be possible to split this into two parts.. and would like to understand the timetime that such would create

mike: this is not a problem that requires a long lead for implementation time, what we need is time to get to consensus

paulc: the chairs perceive this discussion as positive

mike: agreed

Items Closing Next Week

issue-30?

<trackbot> ISSUE-30 -- Should HTML 5 include a longdesc attribute for images -- open

<trackbot> http://www.w3.org/html/wg/tracker/issues/30

paulc: the chairs requested that all updates be done by Aug 17; Judy has requested 3 weeks.

<paulc> Request: http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html/2012Aug/0142.html

paulc: the chairs are likely to respond to that request either late this week or early next week

New Calls this week

paulc: none

New Surveys this week

paulc: none

Decisions this week

issue-189?

<trackbot> ISSUE-189 -- Prefix convention needs to be coordinated with IETF -- closed

<trackbot> http://www.w3.org/html/wg/tracker/issues/189

http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html/2012Aug/0115.html

paulc: there was a question on this decision from Julian, and Maciej responded
... we will monitor that thread

Task Force Reports

Testing Task Force:

krisk: we met on 7/31

<krisk> http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html-testsuite/2012Aug/0001.html

<krisk> http://w3c-test.org/html/tests/approved/canvas/2d.text.draw.space.collapse.nonspace.html

krisk: Zhang (from Intel) fixed a bug... much appreciated

<krisk> lots of discussion if VT (vertical tab) should be a space char

<krisk> http://www.w3.org/TR/html5/common-microsyntaxes.html#space-character

krisk: either the test will change to match the spec, or we will request that the spec change

paulc: when will a bug be filled?

krisk: I will file a bug

<krisk> I'll open one

krisk: we will meet again next tuesday

paulc: do you have a page with the number of submitted and approved tests?

krisk: not yet, but I can create one

Accessibility Task Force

janina: it is August and lots of people are on vacation

issue-201?

<trackbot> ISSUE-201 -- Provide canvas location and hit testing capability to fallback content -- open

<trackbot> http://www.w3.org/html/wg/tracker/issues/201

janina: steve was not clear if ted's response included the list of elements?

<paulc> Question from Steve is in http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html/2012Aug/0062.html

ted: I have been looking at it, and have been trying to come up with a list of restrictions
... the restriction in the proposal is more than what we want, and I hope to have a response before end of day tomorrow

janina: I will convey to others that you are working on this
... lot of discussion regarding 206, which seems to be settling down

paulc: anything else?

Media Task Force

paulc: I chair these meetings, and they occur on tuesday. We canceled last week due to vacations.
... the editors are busy applying changes; there will be a meeting next week. Vacation continues to pose a problem.
... we are probably a month to two months away from having something to bring back to the working group

Other Business

http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html/2012Aug/0060.html

... the editors had a meeting on Tuesday this week (with two of the co-chairs), focusing on applying decisions and on post-LC2 bugs
... the chairs are pleased with the progress

<trackbot> http://www.w3.org/html/wg/tracker/issues/131

issue-201?

<trackbot> ISSUE-201 -- Provide canvas location and hit testing capability to fallback content -- open

<trackbot> http://www.w3.org/html/wg/tracker/issues/201

<paulc> http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html/2012Aug/0062.html

paulc: we talked about this one; ted need to respond to message 62.
... any other business?
... (again noted the dependency between 204 and 30)

Chair and Scribe for next meeting

paulc: I'm traveling next week; Maciej will chair
... any volunteers to scribe?
... no volunteers to subscribe; maciej will need to deal with it
