Welcome

andrew: WAI-AGE will come to an end at the end of september but it is hoped that members will continue to participate in the WAI-AGE project in other ways and give their views on ageing and accessibility

Developing Accessible Websites for Older People

<Andrew> http://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/Drafts/sites-older-users/Overview.html

andrew: forms section has been split into two and scripting used to make sections expandable/collapsible - do the headings make sense?

darren: headings make sense - not sure if expanded section supposed to have a full border?
... border ties expanded bit into heading

andrew: is the order and copy ok, is anything missing?

darren: text size ok

andrew: text style and layout?

darren: yes

andrew: colour and contrast?

darren: should 'info and relationships' say 'information and relationships'?

andrew: this is how it is in WCAG

kate: under 'navigation and location' no reason is given why older people need navigation to be clear

<Andrew> ACTION: Developing - consider adding under 'navigation and location' a reason why older people need navigation to be clear (cognition?) [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2010/09/08-waiage-minutes.html#action04]

kate: under 'error prevention and recovery for forms' maybe mention that older people's problems here can be due to cognitive decline/poor dexterity

<Andrew> ACTION: Developing - consider under 'error prevention and recovery for forms' maybe mention that older people's problems can be due to cognitive decline/poor dexterity [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2010/09/08-waiage-minutes.html#action05]

How People with Disabilities Use the Web

<shadi> http://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/Drafts/PWD-Use-Web/2009/

<shadi> http://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/Drafts/PWD-Use-Web/2009/scenarios

kate: How People with Disabilities Use the Web: Scenarios of Web Users - Down should have capital D

<shadi> http://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/Drafts/PWD-Use-Web/2009/disabilities

<Andrew> shadi: 'abilities and diversity' helps explain the types and combinations and situations of different disabilities

shadi: Some of these are medical terms (e.g. ADHD) and some are functional disabilities that may be caused by a variety of different issues. Is this a problem?

darren: No - the audience don't mind whether they are medical conditions or not

<shadi> http://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/Drafts/PWD-Use-Web/2009/browsing

shadi: can anyone think of anything missing here? do the headings make sense?

darren: not sure what 'symbols browser' means

kate: nor me

andrew: mencap in UK works with these

<shadi> http://www.bltt.org/symbols/#

<shadi> http://www.oatsoft.org/Software/Software/by-category/Repository/Function/SymbolSet

<shadi> http://www.bbc.co.uk/accessibility/win/language/learning/symbol.shtml

<shadi> http://www.widgit.com/

andrew: perhaps call it 'symbols-based browser'?

kate: agree that is clearer
... not sure what 'accelerators' means

suzette: maybe separate 'keyboard and mouse settings' into two items, as keyboard is largely to do with text entry and mouse for selecting things, so functionally they are quite different?

<Andrew> ACTION: How PWD Use the Web - consider separating 'keyboard and mouse settings' into two items [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2010/09/08-waiage-minutes.html#action06]

suzette: there might be a case for a title like 'Mouse and other pointer devices'

<shadi> http://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/Drafts/PWD-Use-Web/2009/provisions

<shadi> http://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/Drafts/PWD-Use-Web/2009/provisions#alternatives

<shadi> http://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/Drafts/PWD-Use-Web/2009/provisions#adaptable

kate: in "Headings, lists, tables, and other structures in the content are marked-up properly" not everyone would know what marked-up means

<suzette> How about: .. are correctly identified by the underlying code

kate: yes that's good

michael: Maybe add "meaningful" to the beginning of the bullet "Sequences of information or instructions are independent of any presentation"?

shadi: except for 'Web browsing methods' these pages are ready for detailed editorial review so please feel free to send comments over next couple of weeks

andrew: next definite teleconference 22nd september but we may possibly have one next week and one in last week of september
... would be great if everyone contributed to EOWG after the WAI-AGE task force winds up
