Why? Re-use!

1. Re-use existing information structures
   • schemas
   • ontologies
2. Re-use licenses
3. Enable re-use of ideas (vs. expression)
   • proper scope of 'derivative works' to enable data re-use
   • re-examine database copyright
4. Policy-aware environments with transparency and accountability with respect to rules

Oh, and open standards.
