Hi.

Is there(or there will be) a way I can find out if the device is in silent
mode?

I mean, I could perform a "bip" sound in my webapp when something
happens...but if the user has put his device in "meeting mode", I will just
vibrate it instead...is this(or will it be) possible somehow?

Regards.
Updated introduction to mention relevance of Notification API, referencing W3C Notification editors draft ( https://dvcs.w3.org/hg/notifications/raw-file/tip/Overview.html )

Revised text:

[[
Introduction

This section is non-normative.

The API is specifically designed to address use cases that require simple tactile feedback only. Use cases requiring more fine-grained control are out of scope for this specification. This API is not meant to be used as a generic notification mechanism. Such use cases may be handled using the Web Notifications [notifications] specification. In addition, determining whether vibration is enabled is out of scope for this specification.

The [vibration] LC Working Draft [1] includes a normative reference to HTML 5.0 CR [2].

The normative text of the LC WD refers to HTML5 in the following text:
3. Terminology

The concepts browsing context<http://dev.w3.org/html5/spec/browsers.html#browsing-context> and spin the event loop<http://dev.w3.org/html5/spec/webappapis.html#spin-the-event-loop> are defined in [HTML5<http://www.w3.org/TR/2013/WD-vibration-20130523/#bib-HTML5>].
The two links in the above text do NOT refer to the HTML 5.0 CR but actually refer to the HTML 5.1 nightly build. I recommend you change the links to refer to the HTML5 CR draft OR change the normative reference to HTML 5.1.
