Industrial applications
For industrial applications (e.g. the ones covered by the STEP/express standards), GELLISH provides a large list of Electrical, Instrumentation, Control, IT, including Valves, Functions & Roles of Signals in http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=28353&package_id=20196 (part 2)
Most of the interesting definitions from GELLISH are sourced from elsewhere, especially from the ISO 15926 standards.
ISO 15926 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_15926 is titled: "Industrial automation systems and integration---Integration of life-cycle data for process plants including oil and gas production facilities" is a standard for data integration, sharing, exchange, and hand-over between computer systems.
The POSC CAESAR association http://www.posccaesar.org/ has worked on ontologies versions of the ISO 15926 definitions

For the XG group, we need to learn more about Sensor Networks Nodes and about the new classes of sensors which can be mounted on them, e.g. have more reports like this one: BC CARMS In Situ Sensors Sensor Networks and Webs Industry and Market Overview June 2006 http://carms.geog.uvic.ca/images/In%20Situ%20Sensors.pdf
