- Credential: A fact that's signed and vouched for by a third party.
- Declaration: A fact that's uttered by one of the parties in the exchange.
- Policy: A service provider's idea of what it will (or won't) do.
- Preference: A user's idea what he'd like to see happen.
- In reality, policies win, preferences lose.
