This Interest Group follows the rules and requirements of the latest operative version of the World Wide Web Consortium Process Document. In the event of a conflict between this document and the W3C Process Document, the W3C Process Document shall take precedence.
The Internationalization Interest Group (I18N IG) is an Interest Group as defined by the W3C Process, within the W3C Internationalization Activity. The purpose of this IG is to help the Working Groups within the Internationalization Activity with advice and opinions from a larger group of people with knowledge in different languages and cultures as well as different parts of the Web architecture. The I18N IG also provides a forum to discuss issues related to the internationalization of the Web.
This Interest Group does not produce any deliverables.
The expiration date of this charter is 31 October 2006.
The Internationalization Interest Group will be in contact with the Working Groups in the Internationalization Activity:
The I18N IG maintains close contact with these WGs. This close contact will mainly be established by cross-membership. The WGs will use the I18N IG to obtain input from a larger group of people with knowledge in different languages and cultures as well as different parts of the Web architecture, and to report progress on their work, and solicit feedback.
The proceedings of this Group are public.
This Group will not have any face-to-face meetings, and no teleconferences.
The Internationalization Interest Group shall communicate among its participants using the mailing list www-international@w3.org (public archive).
Membership of the Internationalization Interest Group is open to the public; W3C Membership is not a prerequisite.
Membership is signified by subscribing to the mailing list, www-international@w3.org. One can subscribe to the mailing list by sending an email to www-international-request@w3.org, respectively, with 'subscribe' in the Subject. There is no time commitment for participation to this Interest Group.
The initial chair of this Interest Group is Martin Dürst, W3C.
The initial W3C Team contact is Martin Dürst. It is expected that this Group will consume about 0.1 FTE, including administrative logistics.
The Internationalization Interest Group provides an opportunity to share perspectives on Internationalization. W3C reminds Interest Group participants of their obligation to comply with patent disclosure obligations as set out in Section 6 of the W3C Patent Policy. While the Interest Group does not produce Recommendation-track documents, when Interest Group participants review Recommendation-track specifications from Working Groups, the patent disclosure obligations do apply. Please note that the proceedings of this Interest Group (mailing list archives, minutes, etc.) are publicly visible.
