Conclusions

Web standards and Web technologies are unique because of:

• Scalability
• General purpose
• Graceful degradation

Proprietary extensions and private agreements are very tempting, but short-sighted.

Creating standards for higher levels of abstraction leads to generic technology with high productivity benefits.
