I still think a strong path for decentralized extensibility is using 
<embed> and <object> elements. These have been proven to bring 
extended capabilities to HTML and provided a path toward proofs of 
authoring and delivery concepts, and led to adoption or some popular 
media as standard elements. To maximize return in exploring this form 
we need standardized interfaces and clean consistent integration with 
the DOM in all the HTML5 web browsers. Some of this needs to be 
defined in an independent interface standards (installation, 
registration, instantiation, runtime) jointly authored and followed by 
both browser makers and by decentralized extension makers, and some 
(interfaces and expected results) as part of basic html5.
