Re: New dqv:inDimension

Hi Riccardo,

I understand the concern that further “quality stuff” can (and will) emerge in the future. On the other hand, I do not think that restricting the domain of inDimension would hinder this. Actually, I think this would make it easier for different metrics to be interoperable as well. If we consider this from an application point of view, it will make it very hard to understand the semantics of the different quality metrics. Taking the example I mentioned before, how come a foaf profile suddenly can become a quality metric?

I think inDimension domain should be restricted, and future quality stuff, should adhere to that restriction. Otherwise if we allow anyone to do anything in the DQV I’m afraid that we will end up with low quality, quality metadata.

Cheers,
Jer

Hi Jeremy,
yes you can have basically anything connected to Dimensions.

In particular, metrics, annotations, standards, and quality policy are explicitly related to quality dimensions in the new version of DQV.
Of course we might have restricted inDimension domain only to the aforementioned classes, but by not doing so, the door is left open to further "quality stuff" which can emerge in the future.

Does it make any sense to you?

Cheers,
Riccardo

Hi Riccardo,

I didn’t really understand why the domain of inDimension was removed. Wouldn’t that be a bit risky, in the sense that now anything can be in a dimension (technically speaking my foaf profile can be in a quality dimension), right?

Cheers,
Jer

Hi Jeremy,
As part of action 258 [1], I have to tell you that the property dqv:inDimension has been revised: we decided to remove its domain and it is currently defined as the super-property of daq:hasMetric 's inverse.

If you are wondering how the new inDimension looks like, you can take a look at [2].

Cheers,
Riccardo
