(Copied to WAI Liason and HTMLWG as both seem relevant to this.) I've started a summary of the functional similarities and differences between the Smart Headers algorithm and the one in HTML5. It will be published on my blog (where I can most easily correct it in response to feedback) before 1st December 2008. Al & Dan, I've filed ACTION-85 for this: * <http://www.w3.org/html/wg/tracker/actions/85> * <http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html/2008Nov/0098.html> * <http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html/2008Nov/0100.html> James Graham is interested in updating and correcting his Table Inspector prototype of the algorithm in HTML5 and Smart Headers. The comparison document will include a section which advises on which differences and proposals seem beneficial. This advice will be informed by the techniques and conventions in use on the web, as discussed with PFWG during TPAC 2008. My plan is for the finished comparison document to be taken into consideration by Ian Hickson when he next works through data tables feedback, adjusting HTML5 (or not) as appropriate. Potential implementors can then give more detailed review of the header association features in HTML5.
