There is one navigation bar with links to other pages (W3C Home, WAI Resources, About WAI, Site Map, and Search) at the beginning of the WAI home page, and then a second navigation bar with links to different parts of the WAI home page (news, about, participation, resources). Screen reader users can "skip" these navigation links by selecting "skipnav."
The WAI home page uses a two-column layout, which can be changed to a single column by selecting the (change column layout, using the ,detab tool) icon. To change the layout back to two columns again, select the "change column layout" again. A single column of text may be easier to use for people using certain screen readers, or screen enlargers, or for other reasons.
People using browsers with an "access key" option can use access key "r" on this page to select the link to " WAI Resources." This access key will also work on other WAI pages with "WAI Resources" in the external navigation bar.
The red arrows in front of the second-level headings use "null" (empty) alternative text, since these are for decoration of a structural element and are not significant for meaning. Other images used on this page have alternative text that explains their function.
There is a site map/index of the WAI Web site, to help you find documents relating to accessibility of the Web.
Additional information about the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is available on the W3C home page, the W3C Site Index, and at W3C Help.
The WAI home page uses a conformance icon for the "Double-A Level" of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0.
