UT May 2015/Session Feedback/Roadmap
Priority issues
- Improve navigation
- Clarify if this is a linear or dip-in process
- Provide options for reading and skimming audiences e.g. list of key actions
- Summarize rather than repeat section intro and activity intro in sub-page
- Reduce the wall of text
- Add in iconography
- Consider how integration with WAI website could be improved e.g. collapsable left hand navigation
- Consider how to address short term planning needs
- Provide a diary or checklist functionality
Participants
- Individual newly assigned accessibility task
- Government administrator setting up CMS policies
- Accessibility coordinator
- State policy writer
- New project manager
Themes
(from whiteboard)
Information architecture
👍 Positive
- Linear checklist is good for PM readers
👎 Negative
- Presentation order suggests action order
- 'Next' overly implies an order
- Linear checklist is bad for non-PM readers; each section/activity could be its own individual resource
- Not sure where I would find anything about 'Recruitment'
- Expect a 'Prev' if there is a 'Next'
💡 Ideas
- Provide a navigation for peer activities e.g. a grid of links to all peer activities
- Consider moving 'Integrate policy' into 'Initiate policy' activity
- When viewing last activity in section, provide body link to next section
- Add one more area for Tactical activities
Content
👍 Positive
- Key resources and related activities are helpful
- Project management wording in section titles is good
- Straight to the point
👎 Negative
- Too basic for an advanced user
- Too generic
- Too advanced for a novice user
- Not clear that Key Resources go elsewhere and related are internal
- Don't like document title - implies too much linearity; maybe 'Blue print'?
- Overview page is too long
💡 Ideas
- Include 'Activities' as a header in the section pages
- Use internal iconography to reinforce Related Resources relationship
- Use short phrase in activity and section leads rather than full introduction paragraph
- Communicate it is important to understand Risk
- Consider how gamification may be used
Look and feel
👍 Positive
- Text presentation is open
- Share link is helpful
👎 Negative
- Tabs are not sufficiently visible
- Text alignment is buggy
- Vertical presentation suggests an ordered approach
- Top navigation is suggestive of a progress bar
- Too much like a wall of text
- May miss sections due to fold
- Top level navigation was missed
💡 Ideas
- Add in social media options to the share link
- Add in iconography
- Make it more attractive to managers (How? {Kevin,20 May 2015, {{{3}}}})
Additional needs
👎 Negative
- Help user build a roadmap, don't just make them read
? Questions
- What is the impact on timelines?
- What additional costs would be incurred?
💡 Ideas
- Add in Risk as an issue
- Diary or to-do management tool
- Downloadable templates
- Case studies or examples for each section/activity
- Add customization depending on domain or user e.g. organization type, regulatory environment. This is more important in the activities
