I do think we could provide some examples — the teams I’ve worked with get so frustrated with WCAG because it lacks clarity. Let’s provide some examples — when we can. 😉

I don’t think the guidelines need to define the indicator.

WCAG doesn’t define the “other visual means” in Use of Color. There are examples and techniques, but it’s up to the designer to determine how to provide the information conveyed with color through another visual means.

But what counts as an indicator?


There were quite a few examples where the thing itself is thought to be sufficient, otherwise we are asking for icons on everything.


That is the ambiguity we haven't cracked.
