deborah, this is a personalization issue
tzviya, make sure we deal with visual, screen reader, could not be just for AT.
…, page numbers at the bottom of the page are visible to everyone, but may be skipped by screen readers.
George, problem… you reach the chaper, no footnotes visible/read aloud.. So now you want to read the chapter again with the skipped elements now read.
mia, this is a User agent issue to be able to customize what is visible, what is read, etc..
debora, we must just raise the issue so that the UA is configurable, for skipable elements, discoverable etc..
George, jaws allows you to list comments, list footnotes etc. Without having to put it into the Nav document.
George, thats how Daisy does it.
Deborah, we need to make sure UAG includes this concept
Tzviya, we may need use-cases when brought to UAG… maybe Daisy document will be enough.
Deborah, is this similar, propose to UAG with the skipable elements?
George, jaws you do Jaws/DownArrow to go to the next block of text.
…, escapable ability to go to the next chunk
Mia, can you in Ibooks go to the next container?
George, Next item does not work in iBooks
Mia, paragraphs are usually in their own container… Navigate to the next same element / next different element
Tzviya, Accessibility Inspector in iOS may be of interest? But this is not our concern but Apples with regards to iBooks
Deborah, our recommendation with UAG… Is it implement ARIA, is it ever element should be able to be skipped
Mia, I use read by paragraph. read first sentence of each paragraph.
…, move by structors or get out of a structure (eg. out of a table)
George, we need to go to the next block item not necessarily escape from the current item.
Mia, a sibling block item or higher…
Tzviya, ARIA you can navigate to it
…, to anything that will generate a lable
Deborah, an admin user needs to set the limits
Deborah, is this a UA only issue?
Tzviya, there is a whole slew of issues with Test taking/assessments
…, there may be another ARIA module related to this.
Deborah, what we will say, we will note address assessments, but may be an area where we work with this other group.
George, APIP is the spec (IMS). Mark H. is working on porting this to ARIA.
Deborah, we will point to this other group's work in our Note.
<tzviya> web ed community group: https://www.w3.org/community/webed/
…, may end up working with them, which will be great.
George, Diagrammer is a content model which contains additional information.. long desc. tour, 3d printer, simplified desc… etc. list of resources that helps explain the item in the document.
…, longdesc is only on images… WebGL, etc. needs this as well. external documents with more information etc..
<tzviya> I think this is it: https://www.w3.org/community/accesslearn/ Accessible Online Learning CG
George, Diagrammer is a schema, that diagrammer instance has metadata instance plus body
…, W3C does not have a relationship with this work
deborah, what will W3C relationship with this schema to be?
mia, will we want this to be something more official?
George, it may be more ARIA attributes
mia, is it a transformation of Diagrammar into ARIA/HTML?
<dkaplan3_> is it this? http://diagramcenter.org/
Yes
<dkaplan3_> http://diagramcenter.org/standards-and-practices/content-model.html
tzviya, is this an educational piece.
tzviya, may want to bring up in F2F in education piece
George, Diagrammer NC-ISO stack.
<tzviya> s/nc-iso/ANSI-NISO
George, custom element Mark is working on is non-controversial to point to Diagrammer content
…, two mechanisms for using this are: 1. owner of published work had a pointer to this, they would put it in. 2. Someone comes along after the fact and enhances it, and transforms the content and associates an additional annotation to the original content.
Tzviya, if that is true then there is nothing for us to do, since it will be handled with annotations.
George, we may want to add ARIA elements for different items…??
George, Diagrammer is XML we need it HTML
Deborah, we need to sit down look at Diagrammer, and then figure out what needs to happen in W3C
Tzviya, With Mark, and Matt, and Benetech sounds like its in good hands
Mia, User created annotations and Highlights adding your own notes to a document.. maybe a UA based, ability to add and find them again.
George, its in the epub test book
Mia, looked in UAG its not there.
Tzviya, it is mentioned in annotations group
…, listing things that people may need to pay attention to.
tzviya, mention this in annotations..
deborah, is this something in our note or side conversation.
tzviya, pass off to annotations.
George, accessibility features must be added for annotations.
Tzviya, annotations must be accessible.
Deborah, we will not include in our note.
George, already brought this up with annotations.
…, this is important to having documents born accessible
See you all in NY!
