<Karen> Hi Daniel, I thought we were doing a Skype call today and did not see you there :(

<ddavis> No, I'm ready in TEAM2 but I can do Skype instead.

<ddavis> I stop Zakim and switch to Skype.

<azamlerc> Andrew Zamler-Carhart, Cisco

Adoption of 1-14-15 minutes

Glenn called for any changes to the 1/14/15 minutes

<jianz> jianz: jian zhao

No changes - adopted without change

Agenda Bash

Glenn called for any changes/additions to agenda

There were no changes to the agenda. Adopted without change

Face-face dates discussion

Glenn discussed the Face to Face Meeting

Glenn suggested that if the mini TPAC on April 13 is not a good choice.

<jgiacalo> Jean-Pierre Giacalone, Intel Corporation, joined IRC

<ldaigle> I seem to have plane tickets booked for dallas

Glenn asked if the IETF meeting in Dallas March 23rd would be good

<azamlerc> I will be in New York, so could probably fly to Dallas.

<jgiacalo> Difficult to grant for me but possible

Several attendees said they would or could be there. Glenn will check for meeting space/options

<azamlerc> Boston is good for me!

He asked for members to get back to him if anyone wanted to host a meeting and to propose alternative venues.

Use Case Solicitation

Glenn: Should advertising use cases be added?
... Also potentially for measurement?

?? There are 2 types of advertising mechanisms

Would be good to be able to converge the 2 means of delivery

Glenn asked the speaker to post the 2 standards he referenced

<NiloMitra> VAST by Internet Advertising bureau and SCTE-130 series

Glenn: Do they include AdIDs?

There are best practices as to how to track. Not certain if there are AdIDs.

Glenn: International/Global stds?

Yes: SCTE is seen as global. The other is a consortium but has global reach.

mark_vickers: It is in the scope of the Web&TV IG but might not be in scope for GGIE. Advertising is normally not created with the content and will vary from dist to dist.
... Encourage Web&TV IG to look at it.

Glenn: In scenarios of E2E delivery, some do include ads. When looking at delivery ads might affect delivery of content. Also the metadata assoc with content and ads could affect how the delivery is done.

mark_vickers: It is the chairs call.

Glenn: Lets continue discussions on ads and determine later if those use cases should remain.
... More discussion? - No more discussion.

IPv4 and IPv6 or just IPv6?

Glenn: IPv6 offers new scenarios not available in v4. Some scenarios might not be possible using v4. Should we describe the scenario or make it clear it is only possible in v6?
... Comments

Bin: Content dist thru CDN, etc. to home will be impacted. So we should identify the unique features of v6 that enable or require v6 to accomplish. If there is a gap we should identify.

azamlerc: Should support v6 as much as possible. v6 will not be unbiquitous but if something is operating in a specific environment that s v6 only we can identify that. Also identify where v4 would be supported.

Glenn: Regarding mobile, are there things we need to do to support.

Yes. There are a lot of discussion on v6 on mobile

Glenn: We should reach out to get more research on mobile to determine if there are any issues/interactions between v4/6 with regard to mobile.
... Are there any volunteers to start the research? Yes: Andrew Cisco volunteered.

<azamlerc> What kind of support for IPv6 is there on mobile networks? Andrew Zamler-Carhart, Cisco to investigate.

CDNs, local device storage, local cache, shared cache

Glenn: Are there any other scenarios for caching we should incorporate into the discussions?

[ There were no suggestions. ]

Glenn: CDNi - cooperation between upstream/downstream CDNs?

[ No responses. ]

Glenn: CDNi within IETF - the work appears to be winding down. Glenn will touch base to determine if there is anything that we should address.

network transition situations - crossing from a mobile network into WiFi

Glenn: Discussion have been taking place on how to transition from mobile to WiFi as a person enters home/work, etc. Presents a problem if the connection is based on an ID/IP address, etc. Could interrupt storage/cache being used during the original session. What do we need to be aware of

Ans: Touches work at Cisco. Asking questions about how devices can support severa different network connections. IPv4 typically only has one interface. v6 can support multiple connections. If you have several IP addresses, there might be a policy issue directing the choice of IP.

Glenn: DNS could be a more complicated selection process. Might want to add on DNS issues in use cases. Choice of delivery channel needs to be addressed in this scenario.

Any future device or network scenarios we should explore?

Glenn/JP-Intel: If we bring in IoT, how does that change the situation?

JP: Want to reach displays anywhere? Refrig, etc.? Wearables?

Bill_Rose: Screen synchronization across devices of different capabilities?

mark_vickers: Some work is being done on second screen. Some will be IoT devices. GGIE is not stds body but might do work that applies to IoT devices so it is appropriate but not the same as addresing all IoT device issues.

<azamlerc> Have a look at the W3C Web & TV project called Shared Motion for synchronizing video across multiple screens.

<azamlerc> Use Case Ten – Sync Among Browser- and non-Browser Devices

?? W3C WebTV IG is doing work on shared motion.

?? Is this a part of content creation/dist or part of playback?

Glenn: What is shared motion.

Link was posted in IRC. Web browser on several screens allow you to get frame accurate playback on multi-screens. Frame Sync.

<ddavis> Latest Shared Motion discussion

Glenn: Summarized. In general IoT are in scope for GGIE, but we should not get involved into areas that are not a part of E2E content delivery. There might also be overlap with other work being done in W3C. We should be aware of that work but stay focused on E2E content.
... Propose a breakdown use cases into priorities and how they are linked even if separate. e.g. categories of related use cases. Will make it easier to later look at related metadata aspects of the use cases.

This was for agenda item 6.

Camera capture scenarios

Glenn: multiple cameras capturing same scene different angles. Needs metadata to coordinate/identify session, etc. for capture, storage, editing, etc. Even consumers are doing this today.
... As the content moves through steaming, storage, editing, packaging and encoding, archiving, etc. the metadata needs to be created, follow and will be added/altered by different actors yet be linked.
... Some metadate may be commercial - sold/licensed, etc.
... Used in search, discovery.
... Need to look at workflows

Glenn - continued: Need to examine home/consumer network scenarios

Glenn: Is this a good grouping - good place to start? - Yes
... Is there anything else anyone wants to discuss?

Mike: Are you asking people to start writing use cases?

<Zakim> kaz, you wanted to ask if we want to have a joint meeting with the WoT IG during TPAC 2015

Glenn: Suggest by submitting use cases and ask for volunteers to explore them.
... Need to get some "seed" scenarios to start the discussions.
... Either send your scenarios to the WIKI or submit to Glenn. Then submit your list of any you want to explore. At the face to face we can start to flesh out the higher priority use cases together.
... Next meeting, Feb 11, 2015.

Kaz: Que: Wondering if we should speak to IoT IG about potential of a joint meeting?

Glenn: Might be premature. Perhaps after the F2F meeting we will have a better idea of what we need to do in this area..
... Will address this after the F2F meeting.

<glennd> bye all

<ldaigle> thanks — bye

End of call.
