Approval of Minutes of 03 December 2014 Teleconf

AnnBassetti, any objections to approve minutes

elf-pavlik: not made public

<harry> We should probably take a Christmas vacation

<lehawes> I have no objections to minutes as they stand

elf-pavlik: let's do it once people acctually can read it

harry: will check with systems team to make minutes public by default

http://www.w3.org/2014/12/03-socialig-minutes.html

AnnBassetti: will wait with approval minutes

OpenSocial Announcement

harry: does anyone have any questions or concerns?
... OpenSocial community feels happy with work happening in W3C Social Activity and would like to merge into this work
... various members of OpenSocial which currently don't have membership in W3C will get intor membership and then hopefully join
... we hope that more people from OpenSocial community will start participating in further work

AnnBassetti: sounds fantastic!

harry: we had some 'press embargo' and couldn't announce it earlier

EdK: any concerns that those organizations like Jive will not join W3C?

<harry> fixed minutes:

<harry> http://www.w3.org/2014/12/03-socialig-minutes.html

harry, any more questions

lehawes: curious if this has any repercusions on relaions between google, schema.org and W3C?

harry: google left OpenSocial while ago so most likely no relation here
... we still discuss with schema.org how to get proper subission from them

lehawes: i hoped that maybe google will see it as positive momentum and find more interest to support

AnnBassetti: does google see schema.org as social technology?

harry: google doesn't have strong social focus, the focus with schema.org mostly on search engines
... because of search engines lawyers need to engage in schema.org work
... we want everything to be normative and based on other normative standards
... so as W3C social acrivity we have some deadlines here

Coordination with WG

elf-pavlik: explains further intention behind this point

<EdK> elf: noted he put the agenda item on coordinating the IG work to help prioritize anything the WG might need.

<lehawes> AnnBassetti: Looks like tantek is on our IRC channel now

EdK: WG without other use cases contineues with SWAT0 use case

<AnnBassetti> yo, tantek, any ideas what the WG particularly needs us to prioritize?

EdK: someone pointed out that it doesn't apply to many business focused use cases

<harry> +1 use-cases

<lehawes> elf-pavlik: That was EdK (Ed Krebs) speaking

AnnBassetti: sounds like use cases are one of more important bits

lehawes: i want to go back on it and have some suggestions on how to use use cases template

AnnBassetti: i'm willing to do some more work on writing use cases using our common template

lehawes: no questions about value of use cases

AnnBassetti: puting it into template format forced me read the narrative in more technical way
... it also gave me good excercise and helped to notice what might need to get amplified
... anything more on coordination with WG?

<Loqi> it'll be ok

Lloyd: WG misses real world examles based on my experience from WG telecons
... IBM Connections will get presented next month

<dahacouk> Lloyd: do you know who was speaking from Linked Data Platform?

AnnBassetti: Adam and I stayed busy with other work

dahacouk, henry story

Lloyd: last WG meeting Henry Story presented LDP

bblfish

Lloyd: i would like to second this notion not only about use cases but to empasise something out there working in the real world

AnnBassetti: besides Boeing I'm not sure what other companies do for social interaction

lehawes: every company has some basic tool for finding people

AnnBassetti: Adam leads work on internal tool which let's you establish profile, share information, comment etc. pretty extensive!
... we do need to write it up

<harry> I think Ed is on phone!

<harry> so he can update us himself :)

???: EdK worked lately on releasing some tool

EdK: Boeing has more maturity since they already wrote their tool

<AnnBassetti> Ed: Beth Lavender, at Mitre, created their own tool

EdK: we work on tool where besides social graph connecting people, information starts connecting people
... when you think about activity steams, system can post on your behalf to your stream
... purchases can automaticaly post as activities

<lehawes> I need to leave call now. I have added a real-world scenario from a Jive Software customer to the wiki this morning. We need to find and document more like this one (scroll down to last entry on https://www.w3.org/wiki/Socialig/Use_Case_TF/Profile_Scenarios )

thanks lehawes!

<lehawes> My pleasure. Take care, everyone.

AnnBassetti: are you having some sucess in getting other systems to post to your stream?

EdK: example of incidents in data centers
... we need to pay attention to what we add to the stream from perspective of privacy
... also to look at the actual social value of doing that
... we wrote a piece of middleware to aggregate stuff like approvals
... we learn what to do and what not to do
... currently shifting from one platform to another

AnnBassetti: can you tell us more about tools you chose?

EdK: to early

<Lloyd_Fassett> thanks elf : )

<AnnBassetti> Ed: why put data center incidents into social activity stream?

<AnnBassetti> Ed: gives much more visibility than calls to Help Desk, people might start correlating problems

<AnnBassetti> ... will write this up as use case

AnnBassetti: one could prioritise what goes into activity streams

EdK: pubsubhub / Ed's middleware from some workshop

<dahacouk> This is interesting and useful for social too I feel.

<AnnBassetti> Ann: we have vision for all kinds of actions to be reported in Activity Strean

<dahacouk> Look forward to seeing demo Lloyd.

<AnnBassetti> Ed: we did that but took out of Activity Stream because it wasn't using the social graph ..

<AnnBassetti> ... if social graph isn't being used, then no gain by feeding into Activity Stream

<Lloyd_Fassett> daniel: It was Ed Krebs talking about Ford's software.

<dahacouk> Thanks.

elf-pavlik: investingating Linked Data Fragments for requesting subsets of datasets like someone acrivity steream

dahacouk: i find it interesting for the project i work on
... sharing lifts, sharing food, building something together, pledging to a project etc.
... in the realm of doing something, achieving something, geting stuff done
... one can say that evertything becomes social then
... we look here in more dynamic way of doing business
... i will write up a *Use Case*

EdK: if we think about aggregated resoults
... the content is imporant, the social part like ratings etc. improve visibility
... youtube vs. facebook - they do something different
... i understood Dan that we maybe don't need to see them as different

<dahacouk> Agreed

EdK: and see it all as part of social connections

AnnBassetti: that's why we put videos stuff on the inside
... we had all the social stuff already
... it made a lot of sense to put videos in there
... we have videos hosting platform separated

<harry> not me!

<harry> I'm on mute

<dahacouk> I'd like to touch on Social IG call frequency and regularity in AOB if there's time.

AnnBassetti: we need to prioritize Use Cases

Workflow improvements

elf-pavlik: looks like we need tracker

harry, ^ ?

<harry> I think there was confusion re Social IG and Social Web WG

harry: we just wait for system team to sort it out
... more then welcomed to use tracker if IG needs one
... continous confusion about naming between SOCL and SOCIG

<dahacouk> Shouldn't that be SOCIW?

<harry> I'm on vacation from Friday->New Years

elf-pavlik: we also need clear date of next meeting

<harry> so I won't attend any more meetings till after new years

<Lloyd_Fassett> The WG took the next 2 weeks off

AnnBassetti: 31st doesn't look popular
... today we meet off schedule
... next meeting would land on 24th -- also not exciting
... how about Jan 7th?

+1

<harry> Jan 7th sounds fine to me!

<harry> I think MarkC should be back by then.

<AnnBassetti> +1

<dahacouk> I can't make it but no big shakes.

<harry> yes

PROPOSED: next meeting Jan 7th

+1

<AnnBassetti> +1

dahacouk: we have some kind of plan with schedule and we should carry on even if someone can't make it for particular meeting

<harry> biweekly meetings always have this issue

dahacouk: happy not to get to often on discussions: "when do we have next meeting?"

AnnBassetti: we had the biggest problem with having the phone number we could use on alternate weeks

<harry> this time works weekly re TFs

<harry> MarkC has a SAP line as well

<harry> Sorry, Zakim requires pre-booking!

Task Force Reports/Discussion

Lloyd_Fassett: we tried couple of times to schecule Vocabulary TF meeting
... couldn't find common time with jasnell
... AS doesn't deal with any specific subjects
... we will find a way to reconciling specific terms for specific domains
... like for example AGROVOC which has URIs for Asparagus
... we could spend 15min in bi-weekly meetings

AnnBassetti: we do have Boeing vocabulary in development
... I don't think currently used

Lloyd_Fassett: trying to get offline conversation to happen about Vocabulary TF

<AnnBassetti> ... at least not for social

???: extending specific domain or linking to specific domain

Lloyd_Fassett: I think more in direction of link
... as long as parties agree which vocabs to use
... just wanted to give short update

elf-pavlik: I start participating in Web Credentials CG and will take care of bridging

<dahacouk> Yep, I'll be fleshing those out.

AnnBassetti: elf-pavlik and dahacouk planned to work on P2P marketplaces?

elf-pavlik: we work on it with dahacouk and alrady have plan how to follow up

trackbot, end meeting

<trackbot> Sorry, but no Tracker is associated with this channel.
