Final discussion on categories in vartrans module

Elena's email commented

John: someone from EC wanted to model relation French <-> France

Lupe: what about Spaniard <-> Spanish ?
... I do not keel happy with the derivation variant do <-> undo, better this one France - French

Francesca: the relation is useful only if you know what type of relation it is
... what you want to capture is lexical relatedness

John: it is useful to represent what is the adjetive form (French) associated, derived, from that noun (France)

Elena: this example is difficult to accommodate in our current classification of variants, which was made from a different persective

Lupe: denominative variations (a concept with different forms) is something different from lexical relatedness

Elena: superclass lexical relation, subclass 'variation' in the usual sense and another for 'derivational' related meanings

jorge: what if we support both things in different modules

Elena: I agree on moving these relations into another module

fahad: antonymy can be also be established at the level of forms
... within the same synset

elena: add a morphological module or let's make the scope of vartrans wider

john: let's make vartrans module bigger

jorge: let's split in two, otherwise it will difficult to adopt and will oblige users to deal with a large complex module to make simple things (e.g. translation)

john: but they would be very similar (source, target properties etc.)

elena: but translation source is very different than derivation source for instance

Francesca: I am happy with current Elena's classification

we have to support generic relations but how? one, two modules? core?

john: add superproperties of variants for generic relations

Elena: john, why not summarise your technical concerns in an email or document about the current definitions of variations?

Everybody to send their proposal, if any

Other point of the agenda postponed
