<koaliie> Previous (2014-04-10 Webizen task force meeting)

<koaliie> Webizen Wiki

<scribe> scribe: Coralie

<scribe> scribenick: koalie

Jeff: Let's go over the wiki
... which has received 28K+ visits [since early March]

Prologue

Jeff: Nothing changed there
... we can proceed to next sections.

Background

Jeff: I've not heard much discussion there.

Name

Jeff: We've used "Webizen" as a placeholder; we mean citizen of the Web.
... There's been some feedback it isn't the best name in the world.
... Some people have listed some names in the wiki.
... Additional comments in the Twitter thread.
... Stephen Shankland even suggested "Masochists"

[laughter on the call]

Jeff: We can put a list for vote.

Ann: "Constituents" mean member of something.
... Most of the ones suggested are not sufficiently distinctive.
... I'll add a comment there.

Jeff: "Constituents" I take this as to mean "Constituents of the Web"
... Additional suggestions welcome and would be useful.

[Coralie: I don't have a clever suggestion yet]

Sébastien: Webizen in French has a connotation of "zen"
... To have something that means anything in all cultures could take a long time.

[Coralie: I have often thought of "Webizen" as "We be Zen"]

<jeff_> citoyen

<desbenoit> koalie :)

<jeff_> Weboyen

:)

Ann: The point being, what could it mean in Chinese? Let's continue to work on the name.

<AnnB> very interesting points

Ann: I never perceived the "zen" connotation

Jeff: I hope someone adds a comment to this extent on the wiki

<scribe> ACTION: Coralie to work with Sébastien on commenting in wiki on "zen" connotation in "Name" section of the wiki [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2014/05/05-webizen-minutes.html#action01]

Jeff: Anything else before we move on?

[none]

Voting

Jeff: I think we need to do something about voting.
... There is a problem in the current write-up,
... which seems to be favouring a particular approach.
... The community says there is a desire to look at different voting mechanism.
... JC Verdié raised this as the last call.
... We should let the constituents of the Web decide, rather than imposing a voting mechanism.
... But it would be preferible to rephrase this section,
... to say for webizen voting for the AC should be decided by Webizen.
... This wiki could be a collecting point for proposals at least for now.
... There is proposal 1,
... we should encourage the community to suggest others.

Ann: I completely agree.

Jeff: The current approach isn't STV.
... I inserted text to explain why I was not proposing STV.
... Webizens should decide how they want to vote.
... Let's make this a place to receive proposals.
... We should have some discussion of the time.

<jeff_> Jeff: Since the first Webizen voting cycle for the AC starts on JUly 1, 2015

<jeff_> ... the Webizens should select their preferred voting mechanism prior to that

<jeff_> ... so it would make sense for them to select their preferred voting mechanism

<jeff_> ... in the period from 1 January 2015 to 1 April 2015

Jeff: Anything else for voting?

[none]

Launch and Comm plan

Jeff: That's also probably a good place to talk about pitch phrases.

<jeff_> Coralie: Nothing new to add since last update

Ann: It looks like the pitch points are based on the name "Webizen"
... it will depend on what name we got, what kind of marketing we choose.
... The name needs to work for everybody but it would be helpful if it got some sparkle to it.
... I'll add something to the wiki, in the pitch section.

Sebastien: "Giving back" We get the global idea, after that, it's a matter of choosing the right words

FAQ

Jeff: No change at the moment.

Schedule

Jeff: We've sent out the schedule of the AC Meeting agenda to the AC,
... and the program committee (on which I sit) decided to put the Webizen topic on the big tent agenda, not even a breakout.
... The thought for the presentation is less a presentation and more a discussion of the key issues
... including:
... 1. should we have a webizen program?
... 2. what should we name it?
... 3. collection of benefits, right sets, what to add or substract?
... 4. should voting mechanism be decided by the Webizens?
... The other topics in the wiki are not hard issues for the AC, can be discussed separately.

Ann: re: #4, we'll start with so few Webizens that it will not be sufficient to make that decision.
... Maybe the decision doesn't need to be made at the very beginning.

Jeff: That's a good point.
... As we phrase the voting question on the wiki,
... we can add the Webizens will look at the voting mechanism every election until it reaches stability,
... in year 5 or 6, they can decide how to do the election.

Ann: I felt the voting discussion was overwhelming.

Jeff: Did you see my response on the thread this morning?

Ann: I skimmed through it.

Jeff: I said basically what you just said;
... We'd love to get a proposal from a Community Group

Ann: I don't want this group to get overwhelmed before it's even started.

<AnnB> I'll respond on voting in the AC threads

Discount proposal

Jeff: I'll ask Veronica wrt her action.

Any other business

Jeff: : Any other business?
... We're 5 weeks away from the AC meeting, we can intensify the meetings, or say we're almost done and meet less often.

Ann: When there's something to talk about?

<desbenoit> @koalie If you need some help on the comm topic.

Jeff: Coralie, any sense of when we might see more on comm plan?

Coralie: Not really, but I prefer some cadence to the calls.

Jeff: Coralie, please take the action to schedule the next meeting

Coralie: Will do

Ann: I've updated the "name" section in the wiki, to add a note on "sparkle"

<AnnB> bye
