<korn> Sorry; my connection dropped.

<Andi> scribe: MaryJo

Language of Page (3.1.1) https://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/55145/AUG172012/results#xq1

The last few words could be misunderstood, so a note could make it clearer.

<Andi> ACTION: Mike to make a proposal for a note to be added to 3.1.1 guidance to clarify the meaning of the last phrase "in that locale/language" [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2012/08/17-wcag2ict-minutes.html#action01]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-48 - Make a proposal for a note to be added to 3.1.1 guidance to clarify the meaning of the last phrase "in that locale/language" [on Mike Pluke - due 2012-08-24].

If we don't have the language fixed by the next public draft of our document, we could ask reviewers to comment on whether they understand it.

RESOLUTION: Accept WCAG working group amendment to 3.1.1 as written.

Language of Parts (3.1.2) https://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/55145/AUG172012/results#xq2

There is some concern about agencies trying to require this because many document types and software applications don't support this feature.

The same is true of the Web because there are browsers that do not follow the UAIG.

We can't say that if the technology doesn't support it, then don't require it. We should just provide the requirement/measurement.

RESOLUTION: Accept WCAG working group amendment to 3.1.2 as written.

Guidance on applying the term "content" https://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/55145/AUG172012/results#xq3

Suggestion was made that we remove 'by means of ICT' from the replacement phrase.

Another suggestion was made to include a definition of content in our document that takes the WCAG definition and removing the phrase 'by means of a user agent'.

<Mike> +1

<BBailey> +1

<janina> Peter is also providing a distinction between captions and subtitles.

Jumping ahead a little for audio content SC's and captioning. The 'information and sensory experience to be communicated to the user' is broader than what is typically put into the caption.

<Andi> definition of content: information and sensory experience to be communicated to the user

RESOLUTION: Accept definition of content = information and sensory experience to be communicated to the user.
... Remove guidance on "content" from 4 SC where it's current included and discuss content definition used in "Understanding Key Terms" in the Introduction.

Resize Text (1.4.4) - use of "content" in our guidance

https://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/55145/AUG172012/results#xq4

<Andi> Content for which there is at least one software player, viewer or editor with a 200 percent zoom feature would automatically meet this success criterion when used with such players, unless the [content] will not work with zoom.

<greggvanderheiden> Content for which there are software players, viewers or editors with a 200 percent zoom feature would automatically meet this success criterion when used with such players, unless the [content] will not work with zoom.

<greggvanderheiden> that is peter's proposal from the meeting

<Andi> replace 2nd paragraph of 1.4.4 guidance with "Content for which there are software players, viewers or editors with a 200 percent zoom feature would automatically meet this success criterion when used with such players, unless the content will not work with zoom."

RESOLUTION: Accept proposal #3 for 1.4.4 replacing 2nd paragraph with "Content for which there are software players, viewers or editors with a 200 percent zoom feature would automatically meet this success criterion when used with such players, unless the content will not work with zoom".

Action items

<Andi> close action-45

<trackbot> ACTION-45 Revisit success criteria when addressing the term "content" closed

<scribe> ACTION: 24 to 'Web page' and 'sets of web pages' still need a consistent replacement. Interaction context could help with those, but there's still difficulty with that term. [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2012/08/17-wcag2ict-minutes.html#action02]

<trackbot> Sorry, couldn't find user - 24

<Andi> interaction context - one way to solve the problem of web page being used in comformance is to allow reporting on each SC instead of just binary compliance with WCAG

On Action 24, 'Web page' and 'sets of web pages' still need a consistent replacement. Interaction context could help with those, but there's still difficulty with that term.

There are some SC, like the flashing content SC, where 'Web page' or 'sets of web pages' could just be removed from the SC and it makes sense. It even makes the SC simpler.

<korn> +1 Andi

For conformance, the detailed work isn't done yet, but it looks like the team is coming close to a solution with using a simple term.

<Mike> +1

When looking for a substitution Web page in a set of web pages - in those SC's it will probably work best if we are more broad in the word substitution.

The SC's that have the process exception will also need some additional wording tweaks rather than just a straight word substitution.

We aren't going to address conformance claims, just meeting conformance requirements.

Testing is also something that won't be addressed by the group. It is beyond our scope.

<Mike> I'll join too

<Andi> ACTION: Gregg to work with Peter, Bruce, [Pierce], David, Mike, Kiran, Alex, and Andi to develop a proposal on conformance [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2012/08/17-wcag2ict-minutes.html#action03]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-49 - Work with Peter, Bruce, [Pierce], David, Mike, Kiran, Alex, and Andi to develop a proposal on conformance [on Gregg Vanderheiden - due 2012-08-24].

<Andi> for action 36, https://sites.google.com/site/wcag2ict/cross-cutting-issues-and-notes/software-ui-vs-software-aspects-of-products

<Andi> https://sites.google.com/site/wcag2ict/cross-cutting-issues-and-notes/which-term-where

For action 36, the information we covered at the last meeting is what came out of that work. However, there is no consistent term that we are using for software. If we use software at the conformance level, it makes sense to use software elsewhere. However, there are still some SC's that 'software' doesn't work.

We need to wait for the conformance solution before surveying the SC's. Targeting to have this ready for the Tuesday survey.

<Andi> ACTION: Judy to coordinate with Shawn Henry to get updated input on Introduction [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2012/08/17-wcag2ict-minutes.html#action04]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-50 - Coordinate with Shawn Henry to get updated input on Introduction [on Judy Brewer - due 2012-08-24].
