ISSUE-187: What is the right approach to exception handling?

What is the right approach to exception handling?

State:
CLOSED
Product:
Tracking Preference Expression (DNT)
Raised by:
Matthias Schunter
Opened on:
2012-11-07
Description:
Currently two approaches are under discussion:
"OLD": Site asks user agent for exception; user agent asks user and responds
(UA is responsible to ensure that exceptions reflect user preferences)
"NEW": Site asks user for their preference and stores this in user agent.
User agent may double-check that this indeed matches preference but
is not obliged to do so.

Related notes:

Closed (unless I receive more inputs by April 16):
- Team is OK with the new approach provided we ensure that exceptions are only registered once sufficient consent has been collected
- We continue this discussion within ISSUE-193
- If we do not find an appropriate resolution of ISSUE-193, we may need to re-open this issue
