RI: yes, it'll be in Lyon, France
... we should plan to attend

HTML Issues-88 Response

<David> Richard: Meta content-lang was supposed to be for servers to pick up lang for header, but it does not seem to be actually used for this purpose.

<David> from some research, it appears that it is commonly filled with meaningless values.

<David> Richard suggests deprecating it, for this reason. Although it is de-facto being used to set default language.

<David> Then new documents should use http or rdfa to specify it.

<David> It is currently recognised by many developers, but prone to confusion.

<David> ACTION: all Read the Issue 88 thread with deprecation in mind [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2010/04/07-core-minutes.html#action02]

Bidi Document Progress

<David> Richard: been unable to progress much due to other issues...

<David> Aharon has had a meeting in Israel and come up with further suggestings.

<David> Mati: Bidi list has been active, and we should try to integrate results into HTML5 WG soon.

<David> mati: It is now time to separate good and bad then stabilise the documentation, but will be travelling and may be unable to assist.

<David> Richard: Agrees we should progress it. Does Aharon have a planned date.

<David> Mati: Not spoken to him recently, so not sure.

<David> ACTION: Prompt Aharon on Bidi document progress. [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2010/04/07-core-minutes.html#action03]

Widgets P&C

<David> Widgets comments need to be raised soon or it will be too late.

<David> bidi overrides seem satisfactory.

<David> ACTION: All: Any widget comments need to be emailed in next 24 hours. [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2010/04/07-core-minutes.html#action04]

previous comments currently being implemented

HTML5 i18n review, including Issue-88

XSL-FO ruby

DAP, Calendaring

Character encodings in HTML and CSS tutorial

<David> HTML5 seems to be expanding its scope, as you can use XHTML strict types but not transitional...

Additional Requirements for Bidi in HTML

Japanese Layout Requirements

Felix: Murata san has taken core requirements from JLReq and used for EPUB specification and it may be workth us looking at that

<scribe> ACTION: Felix to send information about Japanese EPUB requirements [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2010/04/07-core-minutes.html#action05]

<David> EPUB is used for Ebook readers like Kindle

<David> Also compatible with Daisy format for talking books, so Daisy is a subset of EPUB.

<fsasaki> http://www.openebook.org/ (specifying epub)

<David> unsure of market share of EPUB

<David> EPUB used on IPAD, Samsung, Google Android devices etc...

<David> Not currently the dominant standard, as much is PDF and proprietary formats

Vertical text tests

<David> while EPUB is is trying to be cross proprietary boundaries.

Finishing the i18n test suite port

<David> groups intenting to use the tests: Opera (internally), CSS2.1 HTML5 possibly.
