DanC: I'm your W3C team contact. If the web site is broken or whatever, write to sysreq@w3.org and copy me, connolly@w3.org. I also do TAG and some research stuff.
IanD: work for talis; author of Embedded RDF
Chime: working at cleveland clinic; using XML, RDF, and XSLT for clinical research data
Ben: finishing up a PhD at MIT on [mostly] unrelated stuff. more relevant to this group, I chair the RDF/XHTML task force, where we're developing RDFa, which is closely related
Rachael: working on imaging technologies in Citigroup.
Fabien: I'm researcher at INRIA in France... knowledge representation, conceptual graphs. We've been looking at RDF in wikis.
DannyA: I'm a freelance developer/writer, mostly in semantic web stuff. I'm quite interested in Atom and microformats; interested to see where this GRDDL stuff goes
Harry: I'm your chair; working at Univ. Edinburgh with Henry Thompson... interesting in XML mapping
Brian: I've been working on microformats; I developed the XSLT to convert hCard to vCard, bit it could be converted to RDF just as well
HH asks about this time (1930Z) vs 3 hours earlier (1630Z)
<HarryH> Conflict 3 hours earlier
scribe: vs 4 hours earlier (1530Z)
<HarryH> No objections?

Chicago * Wed 10:00 AM
PROPOSED: to meet again Weds, August 16, 2006 at 15:00:00 UTC time
so RESOLVED.
HH: so let's try this for a week and see if it sticks as the regular time
<Zakim> DanC, you wanted to note a list of issues in the author's draft http://www.w3.org/2004/01/rdxh/spec
DanC: The current spec is a mix of teaching document and specification. Many times I have had people read the document and yet not understand various parts of GRDDL, so it's evidently not very well presented. Perhaps better to have separate specification and Primer?
IanD: Different
sections for implementers and authors, perhaps...
<iand> http://www.w3.org/2003/g/data-view
<iand> the document at that uri is more like what I imagine the author part of the spec to be
DannyA: how about just one document?
Danc: well, we need one in /TR/ and I'd like the namespace/profile document to stay at http://www.w3.org/2003/g/data-view
IanD: the profile document can reuse content from the specification
DanC: yes, that seems ideal
Chime: a use case: extracting RDF
from XForms [?]
... e.g. a guy building an XForm thing to edit data on his
weblog engine
... so data like media types, posting address, etc. can be
extracted from the XForm
... see also Baker's RDF Forms
<chimezie> xforms:submission documentation http://www.w3.org/TR/xforms/slice3.html#structure-model-submission
-> http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-grddl-wg/2006Jul/0014.html * Re: use case: semantic wikis (some pointers) Fabien
Fabien: we've been looking at
encoding wiki structure in RDF. tagging, too.
... we're using XHTML with RDFa to persist the data
(DanC hopes wikipedia will go this way)
<FabienGandon> SweetWiki (http://www-sop.inria.fr/acacia/soft/sweetwiki.html ) is a wiki that stores its pages directly in XHTML and RDF annotations are used to represent the wiki structure and are embedded in the wiki pages themselves using the RDFa ( http://www.w3.org/2001/sw/BestPractices/HTML/2005-rdfa-syntax ). This embedded RDF is extracted using a GRDDL XSLT stylesheet to provide semantic annotations dir
<FabienGandon> ectly to the semantic search engine. Therefore, if someone sends a wiki page to someone else the annotations follow it, and if an application crawls the wiki site it can extract the metadata and reuse them. The RDF structure allows refactoring the wiki structure by editing the RDF annotations and the RDFS schemas they are based on it.
Danny: consider somebody buying a
guitar...
... suppose there's a service with aggregated instrument review
data...
... the data could be aggregated from microformatted data using
GRDDL
... using hReview
... you might be able to mix with hCards of your contacts
... and the aggregator should offer a SPARQL interface
too
... this raises the issue that profile URIs aren't widely
deployed in microformat documents
<iand> sparql querying of html pages: http://xmlarmyknife.org/blog/archives/000285.html
<briansuda> http://kitchen.technorati.com/review/search/
IanD: a couple use cases: (1) using SPARQL to query HTML pages; cf work by Leigh Dodds [sp?]
<Zakim> DanC, you wanted to note our publication obligation and my hope to use a tutorial/use case document to meet it
-> http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-archive/2006Aug/0010.html W3C Heartbeat requirement in SPARQL Bjoern Hoehrmann (Wednesday, 9 August)
http://www.w3.org/2001/sw/grddl-wg/weekly-agenda
There was some discussion of using the ESW wiki, and setting expecatations appropriately.
<iand> http://esw.w3.org/topic/GrddlResources
<iand> http://esw.w3.org/topic/MicroModels
I see http://esw.w3.org/topic/MicroModels
ah... there's the one I was looking for http://esw.w3.org/topic/EmbeddingRDFinHTML
<Zakim> benadida, you wanted to bring up the use case of outputing RDFa from GRDDL
BenA: another use case: putting
the RDF inline, so you get, for example, a calendar icon next
to calendar items...
... one way to do that would be if GRDDL transformations would
output XHTML with RDFa
... suppose I want just one meeting from a schedule of
meetings; this suggests a way to get the RDF data that
corresponds to just one part of the page.
<Zakim> FabienGandon, you wanted to ask if we will have three docs: a scenario gallery, a primer and a a tech spec.
Fabien offered to do some writing [missed which part]
was Chime the 2nd offer?
Ian Davis offered to help re-structuring
<HarryH> HarryH: Fabien offered to help with use-case gallery and primer
<HarryH> HarryH: Chime offered to help use case and primer as well.
<HarryH> HarryH: DanC fine with continuing to be lead on tech specs.
Fabien: the SemWeb Best Practices WG, we had an applications/demos task force task forces.. using DOAP. Should se use DOAP/hDOAP in our use cases?
DanC: that would make sense in some cases
Harry: the microformat use cases are interesting to me too; I'm interested to work on those
