North American Business Manager

World Wide Web Consortium

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), the leading Web standards organization, seeks a Business Manager with broad experience in financial and legal matters within complex technical organizations. The position reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer, and supports W3C's North American operation, which is headquartered at the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. The successful candidate will work closely with W3C's 18 other offices around the world.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, planning and reporting on the W3C's finances; handling contractual relationships; supporting membership development; coordinating legal matters, policies and procedures; and working on special projects. The Business Manager will have input to the strategic direction of the Consortium and will be expected to develop ideas to improve the business of developing standards at W3C.

The Business Manager must possess strong organizational, written and oral (English) communications skills, and have the ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse, distributed technical staff. The candidate must have excellent demonstrated experience in project, contract, and financial management (including complex spreadsheet development and use), statistical analysis, and report and presentation preparation (preferably using Web-based tools and technologies). A Bachelors degree in a relevant field and the ability to travel are required.
