Appearance or Content
- Currently, the Web is used more for appearance than for content
- Many webmasters are part of the marketing department
- If it looks good, it must be good
- Paper only conserves appearance, the viewer recreates the content
- Procedural add-ons confuse more than they help
But:
- Some users cannot access appearance
- Some devices cannot present appearance
- Computers cannot manipulate appearance => computers cannot help
users
- Electronic business and web services don't work with appearance
- Declarative, content-centered formats are needed
