Internationalization of URIs: Use
- URI schemes that use UTF-8:
- imap: (protocol uses modified UTF-7)
- urn:
- go: (CNRP)
- ftp: (with provisions for legacy)
- Other URI schemes can be upgraded to UTF-8 (e.g. http per server or per
document)
- Fragment identifiers (after #): XPointer
- Formats/Protocols (carriers): XML, XLink, (HTML)
- Without IURIs, XPointer would be unworkable for XML documents with
non-ASCII markup
