No, that's not the only reason.

As far as I can tell, this discussion started because XSLT 1.0 can't 
produce valid HTML5 (as text/html) without using optional features (that 
for instance do not work in Firefox) or extensions. Later on, we found 
that there are HTML serializers that suffer from the same constraint.
